Nineteen foreign nationals were charged with unlawfully voting in the 2016 elections Friday, and a U.S. citizen was charged with aiding and abetting an alien to claim U.S. citizenship to register to vote falsely.
A federal grand jury in Wilmington charged the foreign nationals with falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register to vote in North Carolina, and also with unlawfully voting. If convicted, these individuals face maximum penalties of six years in federal prison, a $350,000 fine, and a term of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted federally by the office of Robert J. Higdon, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

A Ukrainian national named Ruslan Yeliseyev, 42, of Odessa, Ukraine was sentenced today to six years in prison for trafficking stolen financial information obtained through computer hacking.
According to court documents, , made his living selling stolen financial information on underground Russian-speaking criminal websites. The news that Yeliseyev sold, which had been taken from approximately 40,000 hacked computers, included over 62,000 credit card numbers as well as usernames and passwords to victims’ online banking accounts. Yeliseyev was arrested while vacationing in Israel in 2016 and subsequently extradited to the United States.

In a carefully prepared public campaign clearly designed to instill confidence in the leadership of Russia’s “strong man”, the Kremlin has released several photos of Russian President Vladimir Putin showing the 65-year-old Putin in a khaki outfit and hat, carrying binoculars and trekking poles, hiking in forested mountains and taking a boat ride on the Yenisei River in the Tuva region of southern Siberia.
“The President, on his way to Kemerovo, decided to fly out earlier and spend Saturday and Sunday in Tuva, on the Yenisei River,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“He walked in the mountains, admired the beautiful views.”
Previous outdoor snapshots of Mr. Putin on holiday, including images of him fishing and sunbathing shirtless, appear intended to demonstrate his robust physical health and vigor as he wrestles with the affairs of state.
