Sex offender Jeffrey Epstein signed a will just two days before he took his own life in jail, a new front in the long battle over his fortune, as US Virgin Islands list values the estate at more than $US577 million ($851 million), including more than $US56 million ($83 million) in cash.
Mr. Epstein, 66, was found dead in his cell on August 10, sparking outrage and disbelief over how such a high-profile prisoner, known for socializing with powerful people including US presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton.
The development raises new questions about Mr. Epstein’s final days inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where he was awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges.

Gold bullion hit a six-year high in August on low rates, a sluggish economy and heightened geopolitical tensions, with investors plowing into the precious metal.

A Nigerian man identified as Ayodeji Temitayo Fatunmbi, 47, was sentenced to 46 months in prison today for his role in a durable medical equipment (DME) scheme in which more than $8 million was fraudulently billed to Medicare for DME that was not medically necessary.
Fatunmbi pleaded guilty on May 8, 2019 to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and was charged along with Olufunke Ibiyemi Fadojutimi, 47, of Carson, California, and Maritza Elizabeth Velasquez, 44, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fatunmbi admitted that he and others paid cash kickbacks to patient recruiters and physicians for fraudulent prescriptions for DME such as power wheelchairs, which the Medicare beneficiaries did not have a legitimate medical need.

The Islamic Sheikdom of UK will end European Union freedom of movement rules immediately after it leaves the bloc on October 31, the country’s Home Office has said.
“Freedom of movement as it currently stands will end on 31 October when the UK leaves the EU, and after Brexit the Government will introduce a new, fairer immigration system that prioritizes skills and what people can contribute to the UK, rather than where they come from,” a spokesman for the UK Home Office said in a statement.
The freedom of movement regulations allow citizens of EU countries to live and work without restriction in any of the other member states, with approximately 3 million EU nationals currently residing in the UK.
“What we are going to do is leave the EU and that means that legally all those powers revert to the UK,” Mr. Johnson told BBC Radio Cornwal.
“What it does mean is that immigration into the UK will be democratically controlled and we will be producing an Australian-style points-based system to do it.”

A man identified as Tyler Ivanoff discovered a 50-year-old letter in a bottle on the shores of western Alaska, sent in 1969 by a member of the Russian Navy, handwritten in Russian earlier this month while gathering firewood near Shishmaref, about 600 miles north-west of Anchorage.
“The note was dry,” he told the Nome Nugget news paper.
The message asked the person who found the bottle to send a reply to the crew of the ship “Sulak” in Vladivostok, signing off: “I wish you good health, long life and happy sailing.”
“I was just looking for firewood when I found the bottle, and when I found the bottle, I had to use a screwdriver to get the message out. It was still dry on the inside and still smelled like wine or whatever, old alcohol. June 20, 1969,” Mr.Ivanoff said.
Reporters from the state-owned Russian media network, Russia-1, tracked down the original writer, Captain Anatolii Prokofievich Botsanenko.

“Today, we removed seven Pages, three Groups and five Facebook accounts involved in coordinated inauthentic behavior as part of a small network that originated in China and focused on Hong Kong. The individuals behind this campaign engaged in a number of deceptive tactics, including the use of fake accounts. They frequently posted about local political news and issues including topics like the ongoing protests in Hong Kong,” the company said.
