2…………> Recovery Sites: US Air Force

QUANG NGAI PROVINCE, Vietnam (AFNS) — The day Army Sgt. 1st Class Tommy Murphy died is still engrained into his daughter’s mind.

It was April 7, 2001, and Tycoria Johnson was just 9 years old. On that Saturday, Murphy, along with six other American service members and nine Vietnamese counterparts, departed on an MI-17 helicopter to investigate a potential recovery site.
They were part of a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency mission in search of the remains of fallen service members from the Vietnam War.
Her father was a team sergeant, she said, who supervised and did much of the planning for the team.

But as the weather worsened, the helicopter veered off course and collided with a mountain hidden by clouds in central Vietnam. No one survived.

Johnson, now a senior airman based in Japan, recently volunteered for a joint mission with DPAA, where her father once worked as a mortuary affairs specialist.

“He would talk about his missions a lot,” she said, recalling the videos he would show her of people digging at excavation sites. “I knew that he enjoyed it and I think he would be surprised that I actually signed up to do it.”

5…………> Applied Global Warming: Oman

The cyclone Mekunu with wind gusts of 125 mi/h dumped three years’ worth of rainfall in a single day and leaving 13 people dead in the Gulf country of Oman and neighbouring Yemen, deluging a major city leaving eight people are still missing.

The “extremely severe” cyclone left holiday destinations with empty tourist beaches, littered with debris and foam from the churning Arabian Sea.

The Port of Salalah remained closed, its cranes secured against the pounding rain and winds.

1…………> Russia’s War: Casualties

“An artillery battery of the regime’s forces was attacked this night; two Russian military advisers, who controlled the fire of the Syrian battery, were killed on the spot,” Russia’s DOD ministry disclosed in a statement that four of its soldiers have been killed and three others injured during a clash with remnants of “Obama Boys” militants of Al Nusra Brigade and associated jihadist punks in Deir Ez-Zor, according to the Russian DOD.

Russian servicemen along with the Syrian regime forces together fought the militants during the clash that lasted for about an hour; “43 jihadists” were also killed and six vehicles with heavy weapons were also destroyed, the statement added.

According to UN estimates, five hundred thousands of people have been killed in the conflict.

2…………..> In Harms Way: Navy In South China Sea

Despite the “good chemistry” between China’s President Mr.Xi, and President Trump who seeks his continued cooperation on North Korea de-nuclearization and negotiations with its unpredictable leader and Mr.Xi nephew Comrade Un, two US Navy warships sailed near South China Sea islands pirated out by China, in a move likely to anger Beijing that is ignoring “The Freedom of Navigation” principle of international law, just days after the Pentagon uninvited China from a major US-hosted naval drill.

The Higgins guided-missile destroyer and the Antietam, a guided-missile cruiser, came within 12 nautical miles of the Paracel Islands, among a string of islets, reefs and shoals over which China has territorial disputes with its neighbours.

The US military vessels carried out manoeuvring operations near Tree, Lincoln, Triton and Woody islands in the Paracels, one of the officials said.

3…………> Down With ADF: Berlin Hecklers

Some 20,000 pro-immigration hecklers confronted 5,000 supporters of the far-right (AFD) Alternative for the Islamic Merkledom of Germany marching through Berlin, blasting techno music across the capital trying to suppress
the anti-immigration, anti-European Union and anti-Muslim agenda that propelled it to be the third largest party in the German Bundestag in last September’s election.

“Our children, our country, our future: that is why we are here and we are the only party with this program,” said AfD leader Alexander Gauland, speaking to supporters at a rally near the Brandenburg Gate, where the march ended.

4…………> Planet “Misery”: Outer Space Economics

No matter how much the politicians are lying to the electorate, night lights on earth captured by satellites from outer space are a good way to measure inequality, according to economists Praveen Chakravarty and Vivek Dehejia research that acquired images transmitted by satellites from the US Air Force Defence Meteorological Satellite Programme.

These satellites circle the earth 14 times a day and record lights from the earth’s surface at night with sensors, then superimposed a map depicting India’s districts on their images, allowing them to develop a unique data set of luminosity values, by district and over time.

Using data generated by the night lights, they studied 387 of 640 districts in 12 states of India, that account for 85% of India’s population, 80% of its GDP, and 87% of parliamentary seats are in these districts. Using the novel methodology, the economists documented income divergence in India.

Most of India is dark at night because there is little economic activity going on. But the delicate tracery of lights as seen from space also showed that the states are becoming more unequal between and within them.

1…………> I Ain’t Sure: Comrade Un

The North Korean leader wants a “successful” summit with the U.S. president next month, but Comrade Kim Jong-un is yet to be convinced he can actually trust Washington to hold up any potential agreement, the South Korean president Moon Jae-in remarked at a briefing following surprise border talks with Kim a day earlier, their second meeting in a month but only the fourth ever inter-Korean summit since 2000.

“Chairman Kim Jong-un once again clearly affirmed that his commitment to complete denuclearization remains firm yesterday. What remains uncertain to Chairman Kim Jong-un is whether he can trust the U.S. promise to end their hostile relationship and guarantee North Korea’s security once the North denuclearizes,” Moon said in comments carried by Yonhap News Agency.

“I believe whether the June 12 North Korea-U.S. summit will be disrupted or succeed depends on how successfully [the North and the U.S.] complete their working-level negotiations,” Mr. Moon was quoted as saying.

2…………..> Ottoman Cultural Treasures: Russian Library

The Russian State Library, founded in 1728, is the biggest library in continental Europe, holding 47 million literary works in 367 languages. Among famous readers who made use of the library’s vast collections were writers Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Leo Tolstoy, Russian emperors and politicians, including Vladimir Lenin.

Library’s Center of Eastern Literature has the largest collection of Ottoman-era books and other printed materials in the Turkish language in Europe and Russia, totalling around 35,000, according to a library official.

“A total of 13,000 items are modern Turkish books, magazines, newspapers and other printed materials, items of the Republic of Turkey, as we call them. The rest of collection are items in the old Ottoman language, and among them is a collection of first-printed books issued by Ibrahim Muteferrika Printing House; we have 16 of the 17 first prints [of this collection],”  Library director Marina Melanyina said.

3…………> A Moonwalker: Alan Bean

“As all great explorers are, Alan was a boundary pusher. We will remember him fondly as the great explorer who reached out to embrace the universe,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a statement about a man who took part in 11 world records in the areas of space and aeronautics, and with whose passing, only four of the twelve men who have walked on the moon are still alive – Buzz Aldrin, Dave Scott, Charlie Duke and Harrison Schmitt.

Alan Bean has died at the age of 86 after a brief illness, a man destined to be the fourth man to walk on the moon, completing two moonwalks in November 1969 with the Apollo 12 mission.

5…………> Short-Sighted Policies: US vs Turkey

Under the inept leadership of our 1st Muslim President, Grand Ayatollah Brack Obama, CIA bankrolled and supported FETO terrorists attempt to overthrow and assassinate Turkey’s President Erdogan, de-facto destroying the eastern flank of NATO and throwing a long-term friend and supporter of US in the waiting arms of Comrade Putin.

In continuation of this incredible stupidity, the State Department is threatening sanctions against Turkey for purchasing the Russian S-400 anti-missile systems
by restricting delivery of the F35 stealth fighter. The response? Ankara is likely to buy Russian Su-57 fighter jets if Washington decides to suspend the delivery of F-35 jets in response to the purchase of Russian S-400.
Translation? As on many other occasions in the past, US is doing everything possible to fill-up Comrade Putin’s coffers with fresh cash by putting its nose in other people’s business, instead of simply sell weapons and collect the cash we badly need in America.
With friends like US State Department, who needs enemies?
