WASHINGTON — Defense leaders are reviewing restrictions on the use of force by National Guard members and could allow troops to carry batons or guns in Washington, D.C., as they brace for more protests and possible violence around the Jan. 20 inaugural,  with Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy saying that any changes will be determined by the intelligence gathered in the coming days about potential threats, as he said they are looking at allowing troops to carry their M-4 rifles or 9 mm Berettas.

“We’ll be looking at the intelligence, and make a determination over the next day or so,” McCarthy said.

“It’s just going to require us to get better intel, and then we’ll have to make a risk assessment.”

The Justice Department announced today that three Sri Lankan citizens have been charged with terrorism offenses, including conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization (ISIS), with the men being part of a groups supporters which called itself “ISIS in Sri Lanka,” a group is responsible for the 2019 Easter attacks in the South Asian nation of Sri Lanka, which killed 268 people, including five U.S. citizens, and injured over 500 others, according to a federal criminal complaint unsealed today.

The complaint outlines the defendants’ roles in the conspiracy and the events that led to near-simultaneous suicide bombings in the Sri Lankan cities of Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa on April 21, 2019. One of the U.S. citizens killed was a Department of Commerce employee who had traveled to Sri Lanka on official business.

A statement from the federal attorney for Washington DC said:

“It is alleged that Chansley was identified as the man seen in media coverage who entered the Capitol building dressed in horns, a bearskin headdress, red, white and blue face paint, shirtless, and tan pants.

“This individual carried a spear, approximately 6 feet in length, with an American flag tied just below the blade.”

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Washington, DC police made 68 arrests in connection with the unrest at the US Capitol and is working to identify additional suspects involved in violence and property destruction, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee reported: 

“There were 68 arrested yesterday evening into the early morning hours of January 7. Of the 68 arrests, 60 were adult males and eight were adult females. Forty-one of those arrests occurred on US Capitol grounds and, to my knowledge, only one of the arrestees is from the District of Columbia,” he said during a press briefing, vowing to identify and hold “each and every one of the violent mob” accountable for their actions and asked the public for assistance.

“We still have a significant amount of work ahead of us… We have collected numerous images of interest that we are asking the community to help us identify,” he said.

Contee added that 56 police officers were injured in clashes with supporters of President Donald Trump who broke into Congress in an attempt to disrupt the certification of results of 2020 election winner Joe Biden.

The breach meant some lawmakers were forced to shelter on the floor before being evacuated to safety wearing gasmasks, and then took hours for the complex to be cleared of rioters and declared secure, despite the severity and scale of the chaos unleashed by the crowds, relatively few arrests had been made by nightfall.

HOUSTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Houston announced Wednesday the results of a recent enforcement action targeting criminal aliens who are alleged to have illegally reentered the United States after having previously been removed.

From Nov. 1, 2020, through Dec. 31, 2020, ERO Houston arrested nine criminal aliens in the greater Houston area after securing criminal arrest warrants for illegal reentry.

An alien who illegally re-enters the United States after having been previously deported commits a federal offense, which is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison, if convicted.

In addition to their prior immigration-related offenses, all nine of the individuals arrested had previously been convicted of other criminal offenses and several are documented gang members.

General James Mattis resigned from his post as secretary of defense in late 2018 after the president called him the “world’s most overrated general,” and said he “should have fired him sooner” after the former Marine Corps general urged Joe Biden to abandon Trump’s “America First” strategy, and now the former Pentagon chief James “Mad Dog” issued a scathing attack against his former boss, blaming him for this week violence at the US Capitol, which led protesters storming the compound and seizing the Senate chamber as Congress moved to formally certify the Electoral College results confirming Biden’s victory.

“Today’s violent assault on our Capitol, an effort to subjugate American democracy by mob rule, was fomented by Mr. Trump. His use of the Presidency to destroy trust in our election and to poison our respect for fellow citizens has been enabled by pseudo political leaders whose names will live in infamy as profiles in cowardice,” Mattis said in a press statement. 

“Our Constitution and our Republic will overcome this stain and We the People will come together again in our never-ending effort to form a more perfect Union, while Mr. Trump will deservedly be left a man without a country,” the retired general suggested.
