An 19-year-old Afghan citizen with a German residence permit who was shot by police at Amsterdam’s central station after stabbing two American tourists, had a “terrorist” motive, according to the authorities.
“First statements made by the suspect indicate he had a terrorist motive,” Amsterdam city council said in a statement. German police searched the man’s house at the request of their Dutch colleagues and seized several data devices

Formed east of Guam on or about August 27, Typhoon Jebi rapidly intensified over just 48 hours from a respectable Category 1 storm into a full-blown Category 5 event by Thursday. Storm expert Philip Klotzbach estimated that the Cat 5 monster is now Earth’s strongest storm of 2018, according to Gizmodo. Right now Jebi is about 300 miles northwest of Saipan, moving northwest, but computer models agree that the storm will veer northward early next week, placing it on a direct course for Kyoto, Japan. An estimated 20,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm, and higher numbers are forecast.
