Corona-virus has sparked apocalyptic scenes in Italy, as it spreads in Europe despite heavy containment efforts, forcing Qantas and Jetstar to slash 90 per cent of international flights, following European Union travel ban that prohibits most foreigners from entering the bloc for 30 days to discourage the spread of the new infections.
The travel ban exempts long-term EU residents, diplomats, some healthcare and transport workers, with the Chancellor of the Islamic Merkeldom of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel saying that citizens of Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the UK and Norway were exempt, following the death of 17 people in a Madrid nursing home.
EU leaders agreed to shut down the 27-nation bloc’s external borders immediately, and to set up fast-track transport lanes to keep vital medical equipment, food and goods flowing smoothly, since more than 60,000 infected, and more than 2,700 people are dead, nervous national governments have introduced quick-fix measures such as partial border closures and quarantines with little consultation.

President Trump predicted the US economy would come roaring back when the spread of the virus slowed, following his declaration of national emergency over corona-virus, but the crisis is threatening his political base, and his administration is planning to send $1,000 checks to Americans as part of a trillion stimulus package to bolster an economy hit by the COVI-19 pandemic.
The checks are planned to be sent within the next two weeks, as airlines have asked for urgent tax relief to avoid multiple bankruptcies, and Mayor Comrade De Blasio is to decide within days whether to order people to stay home, and New York, the most populous US city, is considering whether it should order people to stay at home except in emergencies or shopping for essentials, an order already imposed by San Francisco.
With the number of reported COVI-19 cases surging past 5,800, and deaths approaching 100 in the US, millions of Americans have huddled down, as
Treasury Secretary Mr. Steven Mnuchin said payments could be sent within the next two weeks,”Americans need cash now” he said, adding there would be some sort of an income restrictions:

Downtown Manhattan is surreally empty, following last week as officials stunned by the spread of the coronavirus, hence it did not take long for the city that never sleeps to become a ghost town.
Museums, theatres and libraries were closed, schools were shut down till the fall, plazas deserted, restaurants and bars empty, as staff prepared to comply with orders limiting businesses to take-away and delivery.
Thousands of jobs are affected, as barbers, gyms and other businesses cease operations for the foreseeable future, with the the few places still open, cuts being on the horizon.
At Ruchi’s, an Indian restaurant near the World Trade Center, staff worked reduced hours last week, as sales dropped 80%. But now the place is empty, after New York became the American state with the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases, reported to be around 1,300.
As officials take steps to limit the spread of the disease – including bans on gatherings of more than 50 people – they are contending with the prospects of an economic slowdown the likes of which America’s largest city has never seen.
Restaurant sales are expected to drop by 80%, property and retail sales by 20%, while hotel occupancy rates fell to 20%, and all that was before the mayor said he was considering curfews and orders to shelter in place.
