The shadowy Islamic State leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in an overnight US-led raid in northwestern Syria, and now videos are circulating on social media from the site where Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the man behind the recent terror resurgence in Syria and Iraq, reportedly met his end.
Syrian journalist Mohamad Rasheed was caught on video in the village of Barisha in north-eastern Syria, close to the Turkish border, walking through piles of brick rubble, where al-Baghdadi blew himself up using a suicide vest, as US forces bombed and destroyed the terrorist compound.
The airstrike was conducted to prevent the location from becoming a shrine for extremists, and President Trump confirmed the results of the raid.

Tomorrow, a joint Interim Final Rule (IFR) issued by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security will publish in the Federal Register.
This IFR uses the authority delegated by Congress in section 208(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to enhance the integrity of the asylum process by placing further restrictions or limitations on eligibility for aliens who seek asylum in the United States. Specifically, the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security are revising 8 C.F.R. § 208.13(c) and 8 C.F.R. § 1208.13(c) to add a new bar to eligibility for asylum for an alien who enters or attempts to enter the United States across the southern border, but who did not apply for protection from persecution or torture where it was available in at least one third country outside the alien’s country of citizenship, nationality, or last lawful habitual residence through which he or she transited en route to the United States.
Attorney General William P. Barr issued the following statement:
“This Rule is a lawful exercise of authority provided by Congress to restrict eligibility for asylum. The United States is a generous country but is being completely overwhelmed by the burdens associated with apprehending and processing hundreds of thousands of aliens along the southern border. This Rule will decrease forum shopping by economic migrants and those who seek to exploit our asylum system to obtain entry to the United States—while ensuring that no one is removed from the United States who is more likely than not to be tortured or persecuted on account of a protected ground.”
The bar is subject to three limited exceptions, including:
(1) an alien who demonstrates that he or she applied for protection from persecution or torture in at least one of the countries through which the alien transited en route to the United States, and the alien received a final judgment denying the alien protection in such country;
(2) an alien who demonstrates that he or she satisfies the definition of “victim of a severe form of trafficking in persons” provided in 8 C.F.R. § 214.11; or,
(3) an alien who has transited en route to the United States through only a country or countries that were not parties to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, the 1967 Protocol, or the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
Asylum is a discretionary benefit offered by the United States Government to those fleeing persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.

DOJ introduced a new rule to curb Central American asylum claims in the US, requiring migrants to apply for asylum in the first country they pass through en route to the US or they will be ineligible for consideration, going into effect on Tuesday 16 July.
Mexico and Guatemala will be the most affected by this new plan as they are closer to the US, and Amnesty International says the Mexican asylum system is “underfunded, absolutely beyond its capacity and inadequate in identifying even valued asylum claims.”
The American Civil Liberties Union said: “The Trump administration is trying to unilaterally reverse our country’s legal and moral commitment to protect those fleeing danger.”
Under the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, there is no obligation on refugees to claim asylum in the first safe country they reach, and applicants are protected against prosecution for illegal entry to a foreign country by Article 31 of the Convention.
The US Department of Defense must disclose to US lawmakers if it had used “weaponized” ticks to conduct biowarfare experiments, a new bill passed in the House of Representatives said, seeking information on “whether any ticks or insects used in such experiments were released outside of any laboratory by accident or experiment design” should any evidence be found.
Republican legislators in the House of Representatives demanded that DOD Inspector General to investigate if the micro-menaces were used in biological warfare trials over a 25-year period, and “conduct a review of whether the Department of Defense experimented with ticks and other insects regarding use as a biological weapon between the years of 1950 and 1975.”
All this outcry follows the publishing of the the book “Bitten: The Secret History of Lyme Disease and Biological Weapons”, which was released earlier this year arguing whether the DOD had conducted research on such experiments.

A US Department of Justice (DoJ) official said Wednesday that the department is still looking for ways to include the long-debated citizenship question in the upcoming 2020 census questionnaire, despite a ban by the US Supreme Court, according to The Hill.
“We at the Department of Justice have been instructed to examine whether there is a path forward, consistent with the Supreme Court’s decision, that would allow us to include the citizenship question on the census,” said Joseph Hunt, an assistant attorney general with the DoJ’s civil division. “We think there may be a legally-available path under the Supreme Court’s decision. We’re examining that, looking at near-term options to see whether that’s viable and possible.”
Hunt suggested that the DoJ prepare a motion in the Supreme Court for comments and a detailed explanation on its ruling as a means of determining how the process could be pushed forward.
“It’s very fluid at present because we are still examining the Supreme Court’s decision to see if that option is still available to us,” Hunt suggested.
