WASHINGTON – The leader of a major human smuggling network, identified as Reza Sahami, a dual citizen of Canada and Iran, that had smuggled individuals from the Middle East (primarily Iran) into South America, the United States, Canada and Europe was arrested, as law enforcement cornered him while guiding a group of seven Iranian nationals in the city of Assis Brasil, on the border of Brazil and Peru, with all seven Iranians possessed fraudulent or altered passports from Israel, Denmark and Canada.
“Sahami has been smuggling criminals across international borders for over 10 years,” said ICE Attaché for Brazil Bolivia Robert Fuentes.
“We are grateful to our Brazilian partners for the unwavering efforts not only in this investigation, but in our overall strong partnership in combating transnational criminal organizations. ICE Homeland Security Investigations is committed to disrupting human smuggling networks who undermine our immigration and put countless individuals at risk while doing so.”
Special agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Brazil led coordination provided by U.S authorities to the Brazilian government. Additional participating agencies included HSI in Lima (Peru) and the Interpol National Central Bureau in Brazil. HSI Brazil collaborated the efforts of HSI Lima as they worked closely with the HSI Human Smuggling Unit, the HSI Liaison to the U.S. Special Operations Command/Biometric Identification Transnational Migration Alert Program, the National Targeting Center – Investigations, and the National Targeting Center Counter Network Division to support the investigation.

Computer giant Microsoft has intelligence that hackers based in Russia, China and Iran are spying on people and groups involved with the US 2020 presidential election, with the Russian group which intervened in the 2016 Democratic campaign is again involved in cyber-attacks, as it is “clear that foreign activity groups have stepped up their efforts” targeting both President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden’s campaigns.
Russian hackers from the Strontium group have targeted more than 200 organizations, many of which are linked to US political parties – both Republicans and Democrats, Microsoft said in a statement:
“Similar to what we observed in 2016, Strontium is launching campaigns to harvest people’s log-in credentials or compromise their accounts, presumably to aid in intelligence gathering or disruption operations,” said Tom Burt, a Microsoft vice-president in charge of customer security and trust.

Although nearly two decades have passed, we will never forgot those who were murdered. Nor will we forget who murdered them. On this anniversary, I extend particular gratitude to the law enforcement personnel and others who responded courageously to the attacks, many of whom gave the last full measure of devotion to save others that day and many of whom have later suffered from illness related to the attacks. The US Navy is looking to hold massive war games in the Pacific next year that will focus primarily on using air, surface and subsurface drones, the disclosure coming form Rear Adm. Robert Gaucher, director of maritime headquarters with the US Pacific Fleet, who said the Navy was planning an “unmanned fleet battle problem” to test just how much the service can rely on unmanned vehicles to perform a mission.
“We’re shooting for early 2021 to be able to run a fleet battle problem that is centered on unmanned,” Gaucher said at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International’s annual defense show, Military.com reported. “It will … be on the sea, above the sea and under the sea as we get to demonstrating how we can align to the [US Indo-Pacific Command] directives to use experimentation to drive lethality.”
“I want to create dilemmas for the adversary and I want to increase lethality,” Gaucher said.
“I want to be able to put an unmanned surface ship inside the adversary’s denied areas. If I lose it, I’m losing a much less expensive ship and I’m not losing American lives, but I’m still creating a problem – whether I’m making them shoot it and I’m finding out where they are … or I’m making them waste a weapon on it or I’m getting a couple of shots off before I lose it.”
