Astronomers from the “Very Large Array” US radio observatory have detected an enormous planet named SIMP J01365663+0933473, nearly a twelve times more massive than Jupiter, 200 million years old, with an enormously strong magnetic field, wandering some 20 light years away from our Sun.
The object has been classified as a “rogue planet,” it’s free-floating and is not rotating around to any parent star, unlike the planets of our Solar System, which orbit the Sun.
“This object is right at the boundary between a planet and a brown dwarf, or ‘failed star,'” said scientist Melodie Kao of Arizona State University.
