An evacuation was ordered in downtown Leavenworth, Washington State, after a man told a 911 dispatcher that he had put an explosive device in a rubbish bin, forcing closure of several roads in the area, including State Route 2 between Icicle and East Leavenworth roads, with drivers asked to avoid the location. Authorities say FBI are en-route from the west side with one bomb squad tech already on scene assessing the situation and more are on their way, everyone in the area has been evacuated or are in lockdown. The bomb is reportedly in a garbage can on Front Street in downtown, and traffic is being diverted through east Leavenworth and police are telling people not to come downtown.

US President Donald Trump has seized on a TV debate remark by his White House rival Joe Biden about shutting down the oil industry, as the Democrat scrambled to clear up the confusion.
Biden aides on Friday said he had been talking about ending fossil fuel subsidies, not the industry itself, when he spoke of a “transition” from oil.
The Democrat meanwhile again attacked Mr. Trump’s handling of coronavirus, saying: “He’s quit on America.”
Mr. Biden holds a steady lead in polls.
But the margin is narrower in a handful of states that could vote either way and ultimately decide the race on 3 November.
More than 53 million Americans have already voted in person or by post in a record-breaking turnout driven largely by the coronavirus pandemic.

The news indicated fresh progress against the novel coronavirus that has infected more than 41 million globally and comes 10 days before a US presidential election that may hinge on plans to fight the pandemic.

AstraZeneca, one of the leading vaccine developers, paused its US trial on September 6 after a report of a serious neurological illness, believed to be transverse myelitis, in a participant in the company’s UK trial.

Persistent state of Washington scientists have discovered the first nest of “murder hornets” in the country after several weeks of searching, finally discovering a basketball-sized nest of Asian giant hornets some 10 months after the insects were first spotted in the country, followed by an “active hunting” run for more nests.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we did it,” said Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) spokeswoman Karla Salp.
The nest was found on Thursday by WSDA entomologists on a property in Blaine, near the border with Canada.
State employees trapped several of the insects and then used dental floss to “attach radio trackers to three hornets,” said WSDA officials. This allowed entomologists to track the insects in flight, and one of them led them to its home.
