The White House has vowed to investigate reports that migrant children were forced to remain on board buses overnight as they waited to be re-located away from the border, with Biden press secretary Jen Psaki called it “outrageous” and vowed to probe “how we got to this point, how this possibly happened”, since it was reported that the children used the toilet and ate aboard the bus, all  during an unprecedented influx in migrant children to US facilities.

In March, a record-breaking almost 19,000 unaccompanied migrant minors entered the US through the southern border, and in April the number dropped to around 17,200, with more than 50,000 parents and children travelling as families also crossed into the US that month.

The Association for the Protection and Assistance of the Convicted (APAC), which promotes restorative justice, has set up 60 recovery centers, which currently house some 4,000 detainees. Prisoners are not considered as criminals here, but  recuperandos, people who are in recovery, and are addressed by name. They do not wear uniforms and even help run the establishment, doing all the cooking, cleaning and washing.  do have to follow a strict routine but this is to help their rehabilitation into society.

The remaining signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, also known as the Iran nuclear deal) once again sat down at the negotiation table this week in an attempt to restore the nuclear accord and return both Iran and the US to compliance with its provisions, with Moscow intent on preventing Iran from possessing a nuclear bomb under any circumstances, Russian envoy to the JCPOA talks in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov said,  adding that he is “optimistic” about the prospects of restoring the deal, but stressed that this is his personal impression.

Ulyanov explained that the parties have already managed to resolve one of the main obstacles to reaching an agreement – they ditched the “nuclear deal plus” idea. The proposal, first suggested by the US, to include restrictions on Iran’s missile program and on shipments of rockets.

Even though Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system is fairly effective at intercepting rockets launched from Gaza into Israeli territory, a recent incident in which a Syrian anti-air missile overshot its target and fell into central Israel has revealed glaring holes in the country’s air defense net, after Defense Forces reported an alert had been triggered late Friday night in Kissufim, a kibbutz roughly a mile from the border with the Gaza Strip, following three rockets being fired from the Gaza Strip, with only one of which was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. The other two are reported to have landed in open terrain, causing neither injuries nor damage. The IDF later confirmed these reports, noting the two rockets not intercepted both exploded near the border fence.

The IDF later said it shelled a Hamas position in Gaza in response to the attack, the explosions from which were reported by Gazans.
A few hours later, at roughly 1:52 am local time, the IDF reported sirens sounding for a second time in southern Israel. The Jerusalem Post said two rockets were fired further north, toward the kibbutz of Be’eri and moshav of Kfar Maimo.

 After a police employee was stabbed to death at a station southwest of Paris by a suspected Islamist extremist from Tunisia who was then shot dead by the security forces, French prosecutors opened a terror inquiry leading to the detention of  three people connection with the attack, as President Emmanuel Macron said France would never give in to “Islamist terrorism” after the terror hit in Rambouillet, a tranquil commuter town about 40 miles from Paris, which revived the trauma of a spate of deadly attacks last year.

France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutors said they had opened a terror investigation, also involving the DGSI domestic intelligence service, into the murder of a person holding public authority. Three people from the suspect’s “entourage” were detained on Friday, according to a judicial source.

The Pentagon has deployed B-52 bombers to the Middle East and has prolonged the presence of an aircraft carrier in the region to support the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan,  as US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin decided to keep the USS Eisenhower in the US Central Command region for an extended period, in the wake of President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw all US forces from Afghanistan by September:

“And he has approved the addition of some long range bombers to be deployed to the region. Two of those B-52s have arrived in the region,” spokesman Kirby said.

The Stratofortress bombers are usually based in Qatar, where the US military has an important base.
