Michael Morris, 65, of Seal Beach, California; Pawinee Unpradit, 46, of Dallas, Texas; Saowapha Thinram, 44, of Hutto, Texas; Thoucharin Ruttanamongkongul, 35, of Chicago Illinois; and Waralee Wanless, 39, of The Colony, Texas, were convicted following a six-week trial before Senior Judge Donovan Frank in U.S. District Court in St. Paul, Minnesota. Thirty-one defendants previously pleaded guilty for their roles in the sex trafficking organization.

The New York Police Department tweeted that it was monitoring “multiple bomb threats” in locations including San Francisco, the University of Washington in Seattle, Penn State University in Pennsylvania, and said that “these threats are also being reported to other locations nationwide & are NOT considered credible at this time.”

As US Border Patrol helicopters flew overhead, agents closed the busiest border crossing with Mexico after police broke up a protest of migrants in Tijuana, scattering demonstrators toward the border where US agents hurled tear gas canisters.

Several hundred migrants pushed past blockade of Mexican police near the crossing, with children screaming and coughing when migrants opened a small hole in concertina wire at a gap on the Mexican side of a levee, at which point US agents fired tear gas at them.

“We ran, but when you run the gas asphyxiates you more,” a woman said while cradling her three-year-old daughter Valery in her arms.

Mexico’s Milenio TV also showed images of several migrants at the border trying to jump over the fence.

Russia fired on three Ukrainian naval vessels off the Crimean Peninsula in a significant escalation of tensions between the two countries, capturing two gunboats and a tug, and leaving some Ukrainian crew members injured.

Ukrainian MPs are due to vote on declaring martial law after Russia accused the Ukrainian ships of illegally entering its waters and placed a tanker under a bridge in the Kerch Strait – the only access to the Sea of Azov, which is shared between the two countries.

Mexico’s interior ministry said all those who were identified as having tried to cross would be deported immediately, adding that, “far from helping their objectives,” the migrants’ actions had violated the legal migration framework and could have led to a “serious incident.”

The group was rounded up after trying to cross the border “violently” and “illegally,” the ministry said in a statement, with video footage showing dozens of people – including women and children – running towards the fence that separates the two countries near the city of Tijuana. They were repelled by tear gas used by US border officers.

    Following a sting operation at a Dallas hotel earlier this month, law enforcement liberated dozens of women sold for sex, announced U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox, Northern District of Texas. This week, a federal grand jury indicted Helen Kim — the alleged proprietor of the prostitution ring — on racketeering charges.
    “It takes a lot of coordination to ensure an operation like this goes without a hitch. I’m proud of the way law enforcement came together to fight for these young women,” said Nealy Cox. “The defendant’s willingness to demean women for financial gain is sickening. We cannot and will not allow this type of behavior to go unchecked in North Texas.”
    More than 50 officers participated in the Nov. 1 undercover operation, which included the following agencies: Dallas Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and special agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Agents, posted at the hotel bar and in rooms upstairs, posed as out-of-town people in business prepared to pay for illicit sex. According to the indictment, Kim, 58, had agreed to provide dozens of women for that very purpose. In earlier conversations with a confidential informant and an undercover Dallas Police Department detective, Kim and her 36-year-old son allegedly negotiated private sexual liaisons with 20 to 25 women at a rate of $2,000 each, for a total of at least $40,000. The pair promised the “girlfriend experience,” and even allowed the CI and UD to meet several of the women at a local Sushi bar.

    Jose David Umanzor-Hernandez, 26, was wanted for aggravated homicide and criminal associations;
    Ever Rafael Roca-Ruiz, 24, was wanted for aggravated manslaughter;
    Melissa Carolina Cortez-Granados, 22, was wanted for attempted aggravated murder and terrorist organizations;
    Pedro Antonio Cruz Rodriguez, 20, was wanted for aggravated homicide, terrorist organizations and aggravated deprivation of liberty; and Kevin Brandon Aragon Luna, 20, was wanted for terrorist organizations.
    All five were flown on an ICE Air Operations charter flight from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, to the Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in San Salvador, El Salvador. Upon arrival in El Salvador, all five fugitives were presented to the Policia Nacional Civil (PNC) for arrest.
