Protesters took to the streets of Minneapolis for a second night to protest the lethal shooting of an armed Black man by law enforcement, after someone wanted on a weapons violation was fatally shot by police after he “produced a handgun”, with state investigators also saying that a handgun and spent cartridge found inside the car suggest he fired it. The man was later identified by his family and friends as Winston Boogie Smith Jr, 32.

Smith was wanted for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2019, following the case from a 2017 assault and robbery of his ex-girlfriend, to which he pleaded guilty. He was barred from possessing a firearm due to his felony conviction and was charged in 2019 with two counts of illegal firearm possession.

As part of an undercover investigation aimed at addressed human trafficking in the region, authorities placed several decoy advertisements known to be linked to prostitution and commercial sex cases. As a result of the operation, the following individuals were arrested and booked on state charges.

Matthew Jason Cohen, 42, of Maryville, Tennessee, was charged with trafficking for a commercial sex act.
Steven Lawrence Kobylski, 33, of Decatur, Tennessee, was charged with soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor.
James Stephen Stinnett, 37, of Madisonville, Tennessee, was charged with trafficking for a commercial sex act.
Anthony Cornelius Baylis, 37, of Harriman, Tennessee, was charged with trafficking for a commercial sex act.
Joshua James Thomas, 32, of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, was charged with trafficking for a commercial sex act.
Pedro Juan Berenguer Torres, 50, of Powell, Tennessee, was charged with trafficking for a commercial sex act.

Dozens of people are facing fines of up to €3,000 ($3,650) for removing beach sand and shells from the Italian island of Sardinia, according to a local media report, as authorities said that 41 individuals had been reported for the theft of about 100kg (220lb) of items from beaches in separate incidents, since its famed white sand is treasured on the island and it is strictly forbidden to remove it. The trade in Sardinian sand, pebbles and shells was made illegal in 2017.

The fines imposed might seem heavy-handed, but for years islanders have complained about the theft of their natural assets, and tourists, mainly Europeans and including some Italians, bottle the sand to keep as souvenirs or auction it online.

Two Iranian warships sailing along the east coast of Africa are due to enter the Atlantic Ocean by Friday, according to unnamed US sources as saying, as US national security officials are reportedly keeping a watchful eye on the movements of two Iranian naval vessels that are believed to be heading for Venezuela.

The ships are said to include an Iranian Navy frigate and the Makran, an oil tanker-turned-staging base, capable of offering a platform for electronic warfare and special operations missions due to its armament capabilities, according to Iranian media. The Makran reportedly left its port in late April with seven high-speed missile-attack craft strapped to its deck.
