Americans will be advised not to travel to over 160 countries due to “unprecedented risk” from COVID-19, as the UK wants to boost global preparedness for the next pandemic, and US has warned citizens against traveling to numerous countries like Brazil, whose infection rates are rising daily.

The US State Department has announced plans to expand its “Level 4: Do Not Travel” guidance to about 80% of countries worldwide, citing the “unprecedented risk to travelers” from the coronavirus.

The US already had 34 countries, including Chad, Kosovo, Kenya, Argentina, Russia and Tanzania on the Level 4 warning. About 130 more will be added now.

A report by Amnesty International suggests that death penalties in 2020 declined worldwide, despite some countries continuing, and even increasing the number of executions, ignoring the coronavirus pandemic latest wave, with a  report released by Amnesty International showing that executions were on the decline in 2020:

“Despite the continued pursuit of the death penalty by some governments, the overall picture in 2020 was positive,” said Agnes Callamard, the human rights group’s secretary general.

“The number of known executions continued to drop — bringing the world closer to consigning the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment to the history books.”

Worldwide, at least 483 executions were carried out in 2020, according to the report — the lowest tally recorded by Amnesty in about 10 years. At the same time, however, the number of executions tripled in Egypt, and India, Oman, Qatar and Taiwan also resumed the form of punishment.

In the 1960s, the Green Revolution had a phenomenal impact on India’s food production, despite making the land infertile, leading to extensive water consumption, exacerbating ground water loss, and widespread use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. In the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, water scarcity and poor soil quality forced many farmers to walk away from agriculture, perennially buried under a vicious debt cycle, with most of their earnings funneled into buying pesticides and fertilizers.

But a few years ago, the state launched an ambitious program called Zero Budget Natural Farming that is transforming things on the ground. The idea is simple: to stop the dependency on chemicals and revive the land. It’s already starting to show results.
