A new report released by Human Rights Watch (HRW) and the Stanford Law School’s Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Clinic says the Chinese government has committed crimes against humanity against Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic minorities in Xinjiang.
The report, entitled “‘Break their lineage, break their roots’: China’s crimes against humanity targeting Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims,” compared existing research, media reports, government documents and data from China, concluding that Beijing is carrying out widespread and systematic policies of mass detention, torture, cultural persecution and other offenses.
“Chinese authorities have systematically persecuted Turkic Muslims — their lives, their religion and their culture,” said Sophie Richardson, China director at HRW, in the report.
“Beijing has said it’s providing ‘vocational training’ and ‘deradicalization,’ but that rhetoric can’t obscure a grim reality of crimes against humanity.”
According to the report, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court defines crimes against humanity as serious specified offenses that are “knowingly committed” as part of a widespread or systematic attack against any civilian population.

Americans will be advised not to travel to over 160 countries due to “unprecedented risk” from COVID-19, as the UK wants to boost global preparedness for the next pandemic, and US has warned citizens against traveling to numerous countries like Brazil, whose infection rates are rising daily.
The US State Department has announced plans to expand its “Level 4: Do Not Travel” guidance to about 80% of countries worldwide, citing the “unprecedented risk to travelers” from the coronavirus.
The US already had 34 countries, including Chad, Kosovo, Kenya, Argentina, Russia and Tanzania on the Level 4 warning. About 130 more will be added now.

A report by Amnesty International suggests that death penalties in 2020 declined worldwide, despite some countries continuing, and even increasing the number of executions, ignoring the coronavirus pandemic latest wave, with a report released by Amnesty International showing that executions were on the decline in 2020:
“Despite the continued pursuit of the death penalty by some governments, the overall picture in 2020 was positive,” said Agnes Callamard, the human rights group’s secretary general.
“The number of known executions continued to drop — bringing the world closer to consigning the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment to the history books.”
Worldwide, at least 483 executions were carried out in 2020, according to the report — the lowest tally recorded by Amnesty in about 10 years. At the same time, however, the number of executions tripled in Egypt, and India, Oman, Qatar and Taiwan also resumed the form of punishment.
