WASHINGTON – A Missouri man, identified as  Jason William Siesser, 46, of Columbia, Mo., pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to acquire a chemical weapon, one count of aggravated identity theft on Aug. 4, 2020, and was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison without parole today for attempting to purchase a chemical weapon, capable of killing hundreds of people, on the dark web with Bitcoin.

According to court documents, Siesser admitted that he attempted to acquire a chemical weapon on two occasions between June 14 and Aug. 23, 2018. He provided a shipping address in the name of a juvenile, whose identity he used without authorization, to place the orders for a highly toxic chemical in amounts capable of killing many people. Siesser paid for the chemical weapon with the digital cryptocurrency known as Bitcoin.

In addition, Shea and three co-defendants were charged with conspiring via an encrypted online chat group to identify journalists and advocates they wanted to threaten in retaliation for the victims’ work exposing anti-Semitism.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents, working jointly with the Caribbean Corridor Strike Force (CCSF) seized Thursday 2,378 kilograms of cocaine in the municipality of Yabucoa in the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. The seized contraband has an estimated street value of $50 million.

On April 8, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Air and Marine Operations and the Puerto Rico Police Department’s (PRPD) Joint Forces for Rapid Action interdicted a 32-feet, open hull vessel, navigating towards Puerto Rico. The vessel beached on a Yabucoa shore where the crew absconded into the adjoining woodlands.

Upon inspection of the vessel, officers found 67 bales of cocaine with an estimated weight of 2,378 kilograms, and the the investigation is continuing.

The US has been increasing its military aid in recent years to the island – which Beijing considers to be a part of the People’s Republic of China and therefore part of its own territory – despite formally recognising the “one-China” principle since the Seventies.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has accused Beijing in an interview with NBC of purportedly acting ever more aggressively towards Taiwan, an island which China deems a part of its territory but does not actually control, and in the straits surrounding the island.

“What we’ve seen, and what is of real concern to us, is increasingly aggressive actions by the government in Beijing directed at Taiwan, raising tensions in the straits,” Blinken said.

Asked about the possibility of Washington’s involvement in the conflict should the White House’s scaremongering about Beijing invading Taiwan come true, Blinken refused to give a direct answer, stressing instead that the US still abides by the Taiwan Relations Act. The top diplomat pointed out that under the Act, Washington is obliged to make sure that Taiwan has the “ability to defend itself” and to ensure “peace and security” in the Western Pacific.

Despite stopping short of making a commitment of military involvement in the hypothetical conflict, Blinken hinted that Beijing would still regret it if it were to decide to go on the offensive.

A nuclear facility in Iran was hit by a “terrorist act” a day after it unveiled new advanced uranium centrifuges, a top nuclear official says.

He did not say who was to blame but urged the international community to deal with nuclear terrorism.

Last year, a fire broke out at the Natanz underground facility, which the authorities alleged was the result of cyber sabotage.

On Saturday, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated new centrifuges at the Natanz site, which is key to the country’s uranium enrichment program, in a ceremony broadcast live on television.

According to court documents, Cody Allen Easterday, 49, of Mesa, used his company, Easterday Ranches Inc., to enter into a series of agreements with Tyson and Company 1 under which Easterday Ranches agreed to purchase and feed cattle on behalf of Tyson and Company 1. Per the agreements, Tyson and Company 1 would advance Easterday Ranches the costs of buying and raising the cattle. Once the cattle were slaughtered and sold at market price, Easterday Ranches would repay the costs advanced (plus interest and certain other costs), retaining as profit the amount by which the sale price exceeded the sum repaid to Tyson and Company 1.

A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida returned an indictment charging two U.S. citizens and a Dutch national, identified as Patrick Gallagher, 44, of Middleborough, Massachusetts, Michael Dion, 49, of Orlando, Florida, and Emade Echadi, 41, a resident of the Netherlands, for allegedly devising a scheme in which Dion and Gallagher would solicit victims to invest in their foreign exchange company, while conducting a foreign exchange trading scheme to steal $30 million from their investor victims.

The defendants company named Global Forex Management promised investors large returns based on fabricated prior trading results, leading to charges of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
