Several countries in Northern EU, identified as Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxemburg have introduced a temporary ban on the use of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine as a precaution since several people were reported to have suffered blood clotting incidents after receiving the jabs, with Denmark, according to a statement from the country’s Health Authority, blocked the use of its entire supply of the AstraZeneca jabs, followed by Iceland and Norway in announcements made this week.

As of 9 March, 22 cases of blood clots had been registered out of more than three million people vaccinated in the European Economic Area, according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The second defendant named in a federal grand jury indictment surrendered today to face charges stemming from a scheme that used bogus transcripts, ghostwritten admissions essays and imposters who took standardized tests to help foreigners gain admission to colleges, allowing them to fraudulently obtain student visas to enter or remain in the United States.

Yi Chen, aka “Brian Chen,” 33, of Monrovia, pleaded not guilty this afternoon to charges in a 21-count grand jury indictment that alleges conspiracy, visa fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Chen’s co-defendant – Yixin Li, aka “Eason Li” and “Calvin Wong,” 28, of San Gabriel – surrendered on March 2 and pleaded not guilty at an arraignment that afternoon.

A federal grand jury in Alabama returned a five-count indictment today charging two Alabama men, an Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) sergeant and corrections officer with assaulting an inmate at ADOC’s Staton Correctional Facility and making false statements following the assault.

According to court documents, Sergeant Devlon Williams, 35 and Correctional Officer Larry Managan Jr. 39, of Montgomery assaulted the inmate by striking him with their feet and with a collapsible baton, and charges Managan with assaulting the inmate by walking on the inmate. Both Williams and Managan also were charged with making false statements about the assault to a state investigator, and Williams was charged with making a false statement about the assault in an official report.

Williams faces a statutory maximum sentence of 50 years in prison, and Managan faces a statutory maximum of 40 years in prison.

This case is being investigated by the FBI’s Mobile Division and ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division.
