 Israel’s IDF launched Operation Northern Shield in December, with security forces locating and destroying four tunnels under the country’s northern border, believed to be dug by Hezbollah terrorists to smuggle militants and weapons.

Israel traditionally views Hezbollah’s presence in Lebanon and Syria as a threat to its national security as the movement is backed by Iran, which is Israel’s key rival in the region.

This comes after the IDF said last week it destroyed attack tunnels discovered close to the Israeli-Lebanese border, following the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirming the existence of all tunnels that Israeli forces discovered along the border between Israel and Lebanon.

Residents of the Italian island of Sicily are keeping a close eye on Mount Etna, in an expectation of an ongoing eruption that triggered an earthquake on Wednesday in which 10 people were injured and several buildings damaged.

The quake struck in the early hours of the morning with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale, according to Italy’s seismology institute (INGV). It came after a series of some 1,000 tremors in the past few days, at least 60 of which topped a reading of 2.5.

Although the earthquake hit to the north of Catania, the largest city in eastern Sicily, no damage or injuries were reported there, but other towns experienced cracks opening in buildings, while a number of villagers fled their homes in panic. Christmas In Baltimore: A Rocket Launcher

 

Baltimore, a US city with more than 600,000 residents located 37 miles northwest of Washington DC, is America’s deadliest big city, with the number of homicides in the city surpassing 300 each of the last four years, including 343 in 2017.

Police collected 1,860 weapons as part of a three-day buyback operation aimed at getting illegal firearms off the streets, and city Mayor Catherine Pugh tweeted that one of the weapons was a rocket launcher, which was traded for $500.

Authorities have contacted the United States military and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in attempt to discover its origin.
