One other Swiss canton that of Italian-speaking Ticino in the south introduced a similar law two years ago. The law was approved against the will of the regional St. Gallen government, which will now be obliged to implement the result. The outcome is valid despite just 36-percent turnout at the referendum. The Swiss Federal Cabinet initially wanted to leave decisions on whether to introduce legislation against full-face coverings up to the individual cantons. However, it will now likely hold a national referendum on the issue next year after activists from the populist right-wing Swiss People’s party last year collected the more than 100,000 signatures needed to trigger one. US fire crews dealing with the clean-up operation after hurricane floodwaters receded made an unexpected discovery: dead fish spread across the highway. The flooding from the deadly hurricane pushed the fish from their natural habitat and scattered them along an interstate highway; the Penderlea Fire Department posted on Facebook on Saturday.
“Well, we can add ‘washing fish off of the interstate’ to the long list of exciting things firefighters get to experience!. Hurricane Florence caused massive flooding in our area and allowed the fish to travel far from their natural habitat, stranding them on the interstate when waters receded,” the fire department reported.
The death toll from the deadly Hurricane Florence has reached 43 people, with 17 districts of North Carolina having hundreds of roads closed so far; drivers are urged not to move through the territories of these districts unless necessary. There are more than 50 thousand houses left without electricity.
