LOS ANGELES – A former Montebello police officer pleaded guilty today to a federal bribery charge for accepting at least $14,000 in cash from a drug trafficker in exchange for escorting narcotics shipments and searching a police database to supply the trafficker information on people suspected of cooperating with law enforcement.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that emergency measures may be put in place to raise cash that could be exhausted soon, if US government run out of money as early as next month to service its debt:
“Given this uncertainty, the Treasury Department is not able to provide a specific estimate of how long the extraordinary measures will last,” Yellen said in a copy of her letter to Pelosi, released by the department.
“However, based on our best and most recent information, the most likely outcome is that cash and extraordinary measures will be exhausted during the month of October.”
Col. Richard Kemp, a former British commander, on 16 August raised the red flag over the possibility of Taliban elements one day seizing nuclear materials and technology from Pakistan, when a group of American lawmakers sent a letter to Joe Biden asking the president: “Do you have a plan to ensure that Afghanistan, under Taliban occupation, will never acquire a nuclear weapon?”
