Nikolai Desyatnichenko, a high school student from Novy Urengoy in Siberia, addressed German lawmakers on the occasion commemorating the National Day of Mourning, a study of the fates of military prisoners on both sides of World War II, and specifically a story of a Wehrmacht soldier who was captured in the Battle of Stalingrad and later died in a prison camp. 

When a Russian living in Germany published a live recording of the student’s remarks, a wave of anger and indignation was triggered in Russia’s social media.
