A sad news had reached this blog about the passing of a childhood friend, world renown piano virtuoso Atanas Kareev on April 18, 2021 in Germany. He  received piano lessons for the first time at the age of four from his mother, a pianist and piano professor at the Conservatory in Varna (Bulgaria), and made his debut in 1958 at the age of 12 with the piano concerto in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,[2] his international debut with the Dresden Philharmonic with the E flat major Concerto by Liszt. He won numerous international prizes, including the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, the Concorso Pianistico Alessandro Casagrande, the Concurs Maria Canals and the Folkwang Competition/Essen, and also won national competitions in Sofia. Kareev regularly played concerts with orchestra and solo recitals in Europe, Asia and the USA. [2], as well as radio and television productions. For many years he had concert appearances in the Berlin Philharmonie with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
