British police say they shot a man dead after he stabbed several people during an attack near London Bridge, the incident occurring just before 2pm local time, with armed police shot the suspect multiple times, killing him, adding that it is being treated as a terrorist attack.
Video posted to social media shows several members of the public wrestling with the man on London Bridge before armed police officers arrive on the scene and fire two shots at the suspect as he lays on the ground.
Assistant Commissioner Basu said there were reports the suspect may have had an explosive device so specialist police were deployed and wide cordons put in place to protect the public.
“A number of other people received injuries during the incident and as soon as we can provide further updates on their condition, we will”.
The attacker, who died after being shot multiple times at the scene, was wearing a hoax explosive device.

Prosecutors in Sicily have announced 19 arrests, exposing a nationwide network of would-be fascist militants, confiscating weapons, explosives, and extremist propaganda in a series of raids, with the militant neo-Nazi ring hailing from all over the country.
One of the arrested included a 26-year-old Milan resident who had been the winner of an online beauty competition called “Miss Hitler,” after sharing the podium of an extreme-right conference in Portugal that attempted to unite the so-called “National Socialist movements” of Italy, Portugal, Spain, and France.
During the operation — led by prosecutors in Caltanissetta, Sicily, and dubbed “Black Shadows” — police undercover troves of weapons, explosives, Nazi memorabilia and texts praising fascist dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, exposing the members not only to weapons charges, but promoting fascism, which is a crime in Italy.
The supposed leader of the group is a 50-year-old public employee from the city of Padua, in the northeastern region of Veneto. She was not known to authorities prior to her detention, police have said, adding that they recovered anti-Semitic material from her home.
