2…………> Asian Stock Markets Follow The Global Drop
.
Stock markets in Asia suffered from the share drop of UK and US indices, as  investors grew worried about a rise in coronavirus cases, with the biggest drop in the region recorded in Australia, where shares hit a three-month low, after been concerned by dimming hopes for more financial support for the US economy, with bourses dived across South Korea, Hong Kong and China, while Japan was closed for a public holiday.

UK and US stock markets suffered heavy losses over fears that a renewed rise in coronavirus cases will blight economic prospects, as at least $50bn was wiped off across European and US stock markets.
“The biggest issue for local markets is how the battle for tech sector super dominance plays out between the US and China, which is getting viewed through the lens of the ByteDance /Oracle -Walmart deal,” said analyst Stephen Innes.

3…………> Snowden To Pay United States $5 Million From Book, Speeches; A Secret Deal?

.
Former CIA contractor Edward Snowden, who leaked intelligence secrets in 2013, will pay the US government more than $5 million earned from his book “Permanent Record” and speeches, after September 2019 US Department of Justice lawsuit against him over claims that he violated non-disclosure obligations by not submitting his original autobiography to the government for review before publishing. A federal judge ruled in December that the US government was entitled to all the profits from the original version of the autobiography due to this violation.

According to the plan to which Snowden and President Trump administration agreed, with the money is to be put in a trust, but an attorney for Snowden said the agreement filed in court  did not mean the US government would be able to take the money immediately, as Snowden was considering an appeal against the judge’s previous ruling that he was liable for the disclosures.
Snowden has been living in Russia since 2013, after fleeing the United States and leaking classified documents showing that the National Security Agency was collecting the telephone records of millions of US citizens, a crime for which he is wanted in the United States on espionage charges.

4…………> FinCEN Files: ‘The Big Banks To Face Justice’?

.

The United Nations estimates that around $5.5 billion of black money are funneled into the legal system every day, promulgated by large, multinational banks that execute the transfers, even though they are legally obliged to report any suspicious transaction to the authorities within 30 days, the dubious transactions revealed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), that show the leaked documents also show that the banks were reluctant to report, and in some cases, they did not do so until six months or even later.

The Islamic Merkeldom of Germany’s biggest lender Deutsche Bank was especially neck deep in this murky business, facilitating more than half the $2 trillion of suspicious transactions made between 1999 and 2017, as revealed by the FinCEN files, as the chairman of the Social Democrats (SDP), Norbert Walter-Borjans, is demanding stricter penalties for the perpetrators.

“We need a corporate criminal law that not only calls individual employees to account, but perpetrator banks as a whole to account in the event of legal violations — right up to and including withdrawal of licenses,” he said in a newspaper interview.

The US dollar plays a major role in global payment transactions. If the US currency is involved, then suspected cases of money laundering must be reported to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, in the United States.

“The suspicion reports in Germany pile up straight and are not processed fast enough,” Meinzer told DW.

“This is a huge problem, not only for the FIU, but also for the subordinate authorities” because they have to react within three days to even stop a suspicious transaction.

5…………> International Darknet Bust: 170 Arrests Worldwide: Weapons, Drugs and Cash Seizure

.
The Department of Justice, through the Joint Criminal Opioid and Darknet Enforcement (JCODE) team joined Europol to announce the results of Operation DisrupTor, a coordinated international effort to disrupt opioid trafficking on the Darknet. The operation, which was conducted across the United States and Europe, demonstrates the continued partnership between JCODE and Europol against the illegal sale of drugs and other illicit goods and services. Operation DisrupTor builds on the success of last year’s Operation SaboTor and the coordinated law enforcement takedown of the Wall Street Market, one of the largest illegal online markets on the dark web.

Following the Wall Street Market takedown in May 2019, U.S. and international law enforcement agencies obtained intelligence to identify Darknet drug traffickers, resulting in a series of complementary, but separate, law enforcement investigations. Operation DisrupTor actions have resulted in the arrest of 179 Darknet drug traffickers and fraudulent criminals who engaged in tens of thousands of sales of illicit goods and services across the United States and Europe.

This operation resulted in the seizure of over $6.5 million in both cash and virtual currencies; approximately 500 kilograms of drugs worldwide; 274 kilograms of drugs, including fentanyl, oxycodone, hydrocodone, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, MDMA, and medicine containing addictive substances in the United States; and 63 firearms. Darknet vendor accounts were identified and attributed to real individuals selling illicit goods on Darknet market sites such as AlphaBay, Dream, WallStreet, Nightmare, Empire, White House, DeepSea, Dark Market and others. By leveraging complementary partnerships and surging resources across the U.S. government and Europol, Operation DisrupTor was used to significantly disrupt the online opioid trade and send a strong message that criminals operating on the Darknet are not beyond the reach of law enforcement.

Operation DisrupTor led to 121 arrests in the United States including two in Canada at the request of the United States, 42 in Germany, eight in the Netherlands, four in the United Kingdom, three in Austria, and one in Sweden. A number of investigations are still ongoing to identify the individuals behind dark web accounts.

“Criminals selling fentanyl on the Darknet should pay attention to Operation DisrupTor,” said Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen. “The arrest of 179 of them in seven countries—with the seizure of their drug supplies and their money as well—shows that there will be no safe haven for drug dealing in cyberspace.”
