3…………> Oxycontin Settlement: A Slap On The Wrist

OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP and members of the wealthy Sackler family that own the company agreed  on a $US270 million settlement to resolve a lawsuit accusing the drugmaker of fueling an opioid abuse epidemic, after Oklahoma’s AG accused Purdue Pharma of downplaying opioid addiction risks, while its legal team argued labels featured a warning about the risk of opioid abuse and misuse.

The settlement in the case, which was brought by the state of Oklahoma, was unveiled by Attorney-General Mike Hunter, who accused Purdue, Johnson & Johnson and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. in engaging in deceptive marketing that played down the risks of addiction associated with opioids while overstating their benefits, contributing to the epidemic.

Opioids, including prescription painkillers, heroin and fentanyl, were involved in a record 47,600 overdose deaths in 2017 in the US, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

4…………> Alzheimer “Smelonomics”: Peanut Butter

According to the 2013 study, Alzheimer’s patients have a significantly poorer olfactory ability with their left nostril than with their right, attributed to the left half of the frontal lobe of the brain that processes smell sensations, and is most affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Enter the peanut butter test:

The patient has to smell peanut butter alternately with the left and right nostril while the other one is held closed, starting at about a foot from the open air peanut butter sample, then decreasing distance by say an inch at the time until detection of the product.

5…………> Ilhan Omar Admirers: Sharia Stoning & Whipping

The more severe penalties of the Shariah Penal Code in the small Sultanate of Brunei include whipping and stoning to death for Muslims found guilty of adultery, sodomy and rape, and this new penal code includes brutal punishments like chopping off limbs for theft or stoning people to death for homosexual activity.

The Australian human rights group “The Brunei Project” reporter Matthew Wolfe said that  the consequences of the strict Shariah law in Brunei, and the government implementation of new rules including fines and jail sentences for offenses like adultery or failing to pray on Fridays, raises concern of the deteriorating human rights situation in the country.

1…………> Dirtiest Cities: A List

Researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) crunched some big data, surveying the carbon footprints of 13,000 cities worldwide, and find out that just 100 cities around the world account for 18 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
And the envelope goes to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The largest city in Saudi Arabia is also the most polluted, mainly due to its industrial activity. Looking at 13,000 cities, researchers found that highly populated centers contributed a major part of countries’ total emissions. Large urban areas use up more than 70 percent of the world’s total energy — meaning metropolises hold the power to change the global climate situation.

2…………> A Middle Finger To “Deep State”: US Supreme Court

Despite dedicated and persistent efforts by the “Open Borders Foundation” and numerous, Hillary “I have no recollection of my email server” Clinton activists judges, most vocal of whom was an appointee of our 1st Muslim President, Grand Ayatollah Barack Obama from the State of Hawaii, the US Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Trump administration’s travel ban targeting people from several Muslim-majority countries.

The lower courts had found the ban unconstitutional, but the US top court has reversed this decision in a 5-4 ruling announced on Tuesday.
The ban prohibits most people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US, and was criticised by refugee and human rights groups.President Donald Trump’s met with the congressional leadership to celebrate the victory of the law over the anti-Constitutional hordes of the “Deep State” conspirators and saboteurs.

3…………> Trump, Heller & Co: Win Nevada

President Trump pressed his tough anti-illegal immigration stance before West Coast supporters during a visit to Las Vegas, saying “we have to be very strong” as he sought to help boost the candidacy of a one-time critic Dean Heller,  the only Republican U.S. senator seeking re-election in a state that Democrat Hillary Clinton won in 2016.

Eager to keep the Republican Party in control of the Senate, Trump and Heller tried present a united front in their shared goal of helping Republicans maintain, if not expand, their thin 51-49 majority in the Senate in November’s congressional elections.

Heller was among the officials waiting on the sweltering airport tarmac to greet Trump.
In remarks to several hundred often-cheering attendees at the Nevada GOP Convention, Trump portrayed himself as the toughest against illegal immigration, saying at one point, “I think I got elected largely because we are strong on the border.”http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/38493798/trump-pushes-tough-immigration-stance-in-nevada-appearance

5…………> Cannabis: Alzheimer Treatment

Current research results are suggesting that old mice suddenly had ‘young’ brains after receiving low doses of a THC compound found in marijuana, indicating that the discovery has huge potential for people suffering diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Osmotic minipumps were implanted under the skin of the test mice,  constantly releasing the drug for four weeks, then stopped the delivery, and implemented several tests on learning and memory.

The results observed were quite staggering,  as “patients” remembered as well as young animals, and also, their working memory was absolutely indistinguishable. (DW.com)
