2…………> Yet Another China Spy Case: Taiwan

A federal grand jury indicted a state-owned enterprise of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), a Taiwan company, and three individuals, charging them with crimes related to a conspiracy to steal, convey, and possess stolen trade secrets of an American semiconductor company for the benefit of a company controlled by the PRC government. All of the defendants are charged with a conspiracy to commit economic espionage, among other crimes. Also, the United States filed a civil lawsuit seeking to enjoin the further transfer of the stolen trade secrets and to enjoin certain defendants from exporting to the United States any products manufactured by UMC or Jinhua that were created using the trade secrets at issue.

“I am announcing that a grand jury in San Francisco has returned a multi-defendant indictment alleging economic espionage on the part of a state-owned Chinese company, a Taiwanese company, and three Taiwan individuals for an alleged scheme to steal trade secrets from Micron, an Idaho-based semiconductor company,” said Attorney General Sessions.

“Micron is worth an estimated $100 billion and has a 20 to 25 percent share of the dynamic random access memory industry—a technology not possessed by the Chinese until very recently. As this and other recent cases have shown, Chinese economic espionage against the United States has been increasing—and it has been increasing rapidly. I am here to say that enough is enough. With integrity and professionalism, the Department of Justice will aggressively prosecute such illegal activity.”

According to the indictment, the defendants were engaged in a conspiracy to steal the trade secrets of Micron Technology, Inc. (Micron), a leader in the global semiconductor industry specializing in the advanced research, development, and manufacturing of memory products, including dynamic random-access memory (DRAM).

3…………> “Fat Cat’s Haircut”: Sunoco Tax Skim

The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals issued a precedential opinion today affirming the Court of Federal Claims decision that federal corporate taxpayers may not deduct as a cost of goods sold expense an excise tax expense that was never actually incurred or paid. In Sunoco, Inc. v. United States, No. 2017-1402, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the decision of the Court of Federal Claims and the position of the United States. Sunoco, Inc., a petroleum and petrochemical company, claimed approximately $1 billion in alcohol fuel mixture credits on its federal excise tax returns thereby reducing its federal fuel excise tax liability by the same amount. By including the $1 billion in excise tax expenses in its cost of goods sold, Sunoco, Inc. sought to reduce its federal corporate income taxes with an excise tax expense that was never paid. The Federal Circuit held that the plain language of the Internal Revenue Code precluded Sunoco, Inc.’s attempt to obtain a 300 million dollars “windfall” reduction in tax. The court also stated, “We have already established that Congress does not generally allow taxpayers to receive a tax benefit twice.”

4…………> A Hunger Time Bomb: Africa

.

A billion angry, underfed, undereducated, and underemployed children and young people could be loitering the open spaces of Africa by 2050, according to a new report published by the “African Report on Child Wellbeing” in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.

Graca Machel, chair of the Board of Trustees of the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), an institution set up a decade ago by a decision by African heads of state and government says that the demographic risk is unavoidable, warning “unless governments commit to massive long-term investment in the nutrition, health, and education of their children and young people.”

5…………> “Su Casa Mi Casa”: Dem Beto O’Rourke

.

New York investigative journalists have dug out a news report about Texas Democrats practically assisting illegal migrants at the US-Mexican border at the taxpayers’ expense, by using of a “prepaid card”   without disclosing it to the campaign management.

Project Veritas, a group known for undercover “sting” videos, has launched footage implicating Jody Casey, a campaign manager for Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke in Texas’ closely watched Senate race, and her team allegedly used campaign funds for undocumented caravan immigrants. The footage sports Jody reiterating “no comment” multiple times, while one of the campaign staffers, while Dominic Chacon, expressed determination to pick some immigrants up at the border as well as provide a supply of “food and blankets,” and give rides to Honduran “aliens.”

1…………> Trump’s Economy: Booming

1600 daily The White House • August 3, 2018,

Unemployment dips to 3.9% as the American economy is continuing its longest monthly streak of positive job growth in history, with 3.9 million jobs added since President Donald J. Trump was elected. Today marks just the eighth time since 1970 that unemployment has fallen below 4%—with three of those occasions occurring in 2018. This success is good news for everyone, but it’s crucial for communities that have struggled historically: The unemployment rate for Hispanics has reached another all-time low, and unemployment for individuals with less than a high school diploma fell to its lowest mark since the series began in 1992. Just as important: Jobs are paying better. Significant wage gains had been a missing piece of the economic “recovery” since the Great Recession, CNBC reports, but that reality is changing under President Trump. “Compensation for workers rose to a nearly 10-year high in the second quarter,” Jeff Cox writes.

2…………> On Road To Communism: Pelosi, Schumer & Co

1600 daily

The White House • August 2, 2018, On the ICE,

Democrats abandon the mainstream Despite public opposition, numerous Democrats continue to call for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be abolished. It’s a belief that falls squarely outside the American mainstream: According to a recent POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, only 25 % of voters support getting rid of ICE. A majority of Americans know we must keep ICE, and for a good reason: Eliminating this crucial piece of our national security force would grind immigration enforcement to a halt, with devastating consequences for public safety. Abolishing ICE would mean destroying the agency responsible for removing drug dealers, gang members, and other criminals who exploit America’s border to take advantage of our communities. The numbers don’t lie. Criminals arrested by ICE during the 2017 fiscal year were responsible for:

• More than 76,000 dangerous drug offences;

• More than 48,000 assault offences;

• More than 11,000 weapon offences;

• More than 5,000 sexual assault offences;

• More than 2,000 kidnapping offences;

• More than 1,800 homicide offences.

Our immigration law enforcement officers work in dangerous conditions to protect our communities. We must stand with them. Recently, 167 Democrats in the House of Representatives refused to vote for a resolution to support these border officials. “To the courageous public servants at the ICE, men, and women, we want you to know that the American people are with you and my administration has your back 100%,” President Trump said in his most recent weekly address.

3…………> Out Of Obama Care: Trump’s Care

1600 daily The White House • August 1, 2018

The Day Ahead :

President Donald J. Trump will meet with pastors from America’s inner cities at the White House. • Vice President Mike Pence is in Hawaii, where he will participate in the Honorable Carry Ceremony for the remains of American service members who fell in the Korean War. Watch live at 7:15 p.m. ET. Shut out by Obamacare; millions will get relief Obamacare has failed to provide affordable, flexible healthcare options for millions of Americans. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 28 million Americans are without insurance coverage today. Americans are increasingly being priced out of Affordable Care Act plans. From 2013 to 2017, insurance premiums more than doubled, shutting out tons of middle-class Americans who don’t get subsidies. In many communities, options are nonexistent. More than 52% of U.S. counties have just one ACA insurer, forcing residents to choose between pricey insurance or nothing at all. Today, President Trump and his Administration are improving healthcare options for all Americans by issuing a final rule on short-term, limited-duration health plans. The new law allows for the sale and renewal of plans that cover more extended periods than the previous maximum of fewer than three months. This rule will increase choices for Americans facing escalating premiums, creating flexible options that are not currently available in the individual market. Learn more about what the Trump Administration’s new rule means for you. In case you missed it: President Trump’s blueprint to lower drug prices.

4…………> Mr.Xi Retaliation: More Tariffs

China has announced retaliatory tariffs on $81bn worth of US goods ranging from liquefied natural gas (LNG) to some aircraft and warned of further measures, signalling it will not back down in a protracted trade war with Washington.

Tariffs are in retaliation to Trump administration’s proposal for higher taxes on Chinese goods, and the White House says China should not underestimate Donald Trump.

Liquefied natural gas, beef, condoms, coffee are among the targeted US products China’s finance ministry unveiled new sets of additional tariffs on 5,207 goods imported from the United States, ranging from 5 to 25%. China’s Commerce Ministry said in a separate statement Beijing’s new set of proposed import tariffs on US goods were rational and restrained. The ministry said the timing of the implementation of the new tariffs on US goods would depend on the actions of the US.
