NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — As much of the world struggles to contain the coronavirus, China’s recovery is gaining momentum, positioning it to further close its gap with the U.S. economy, the only major country expected to grow this year, with Wall street recently boosting its 2020 China growth forecast, suggesting that a quick rebound from COVID-19 will accelerate that process.
Mr. Homi Kharas, a senior global economics and development fellow at the Brookings Institution, said China’s economy on track to reach parity with the U.S. in 2028 in absolute terms, using current dollars, two years faster than his pre-coronavirus estimate, according to the article:

The Kremlin has rejected accusations that opposition politician Alexei Navalny’s was poisoned, and for now has put out any investigation into how he ended up in a coma, despite claims by German doctors signs of poisoning were found, but the specific substance has not yet been identified.
The Islamic Merkeldom of Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday called on Russia to investigate the suspected poisoning, and to hold the perpetrators accountable, but Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the German doctors were “rushing” to use the word poisoning:
“There must be a reason for an investigation. For the moment, all you and I see is that the patient is in a coma,” Mr. Peskov told reporters on a conference call.
“If the substance is identified, and it is determined it was a poisoning, then, of course, this will be a reason for an investigation,” he added, ignoring intensifying demands for a probe, with Sweden and France’s Foreign ministry also calling for an independent and transparent investigation.

Hurricane Laura rolled a bundle of vicious winds and powerful storms through south-west Louisiana, flattening buildings in the city of Lake Charles and killing a 14-year-old girl, fortunately leaving Texas unscathed from the the fury of the category 4 storm packing winds of some 180 miles per hour in the small town of Cameron:
“The hurricane’s first reported US fatality was a 14-year-old girl in Leesville, Louisiana, who died when a tree fell on her house”, a spokesperson for Governor John Bel Edwards said.
“We do expect that there could be more fatalities,” the spokesperson, Christina Stephens, said on Twitter.
A chemical plant caught fire in Laura’s wake on Thursday morning in Westlake, Louisiana, 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Lake Charles, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky over the wind-torn landscape near Interstate 10.
Governor Edwards warned residents in the area to shelter in place, close doors and windows and turn off air conditioners as authorities investigated.
“Stay inside and wait for additional direction from local officials,” Edwards wrote on Twitter.
