The camper van blast that injured three people in Nashville on Christmas Day have led the police investigating the incident to name a suspect after DNA was collected at the scene, after the DNA matched that of Anthony Quinn Warner, 63 of the state of Tennessee, with investigators believing that the blast was likely a suicide bombing.
 The FBI said there was no indication of additional suspects involved and that it was too early to suggest a motive, as the blast outside a telecoms office disrupted communications systems in Tennessee and four other states.

Nils Melzer: The legal proceeding in itself is not respecting the basic standards of human rights, of due process and the rule of law. Already, the motivation behind the extradition request is not in compliance with basic legal standards, with the protections of freedom of the press and so on. Julian Assange is being prosecuted by the United States for espionage, just because he practiced investigative journalism.
He has published secret information of a government that he has not been employed by, that he has no obligations towards. And he has not stolen the information himself. It was leaked to him by someone who had access to the information. And he published it because it was in the public interest to publish it.

Republican lawmakers have filed a lawsuit against Vice President Mike Pence to ensure he will determine which electoral votes will be counted when Congress meets in a joint session on January 6 to validate the results of the 2020 presidential election, the complaint revealed on Monday:
“Accordingly, Plaintiffs respectfully request this Court to issue a declaratory judgment finding that… Vice-President Pence, in his capacity as President of Senate and Presiding Officer of the January 6, 2021 Joint Session of Congress under the Twelfth Amendment… may exercise the exclusive authority and sole discretion in determining which electoral votes to count for a given State,” the complaint said.
The lawsuit adds that Pence must ignore provisions of the Electoral Court Act that would limit his exclusive authority to determine the Electoral College tally.
The lawmakers in the lawsuit want Pence to disregard the official Electoral College votes cast in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, and to rely on the alternate Electoral College votes submitted by Republicans. The complaint claims that there is evidence of massive election and voter fraud as well as acts of impropriety committed to benefit President-elect Joe Biden.
Republican electors in Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan sent their votes to incumbent President Donald Trump in a challenge to Biden’s win in those battleground states.
