Aerial surveillance captured the entire exchange on camera, and two hours after loading their boat with dozens of packages, the men were pursued by a Royal Australian Navy patrol boat. Footage captured by authorities in the air and on the water showed the men in a dramatic high sea chase and Dru throwing dozens of bundles overboard before they were eventually apprehended by the police.

Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 37 provided search and rescue support to Coast Guard aircrew and surface vessels after a fishing vessel and the embarked personnel were reported overdue the evening of March 25:
“I am extremely proud of the way my Sailors rendered aid during this search and rescue,” said Navy Cmdr. Matthew Martin, HSM-37’s commanding officer.

“Working side-by-side with the Coast Guard was key in our ability to rescue the fisherman.”
The naval aircrew located the boater following an overnight search and has transported him to a local civilian medical center to receive treatment.

Sector Honolulu watch-standers received a report from a family member stating the boater departed Waianae in the morning to go fishing and did not return. Coast Guard watch-standers issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast notice to mariners, launched an Air Station Barbers Point HC-130 Hercules aircrew, and diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Gerczak (WPC 1126) in response.

After arriving  on scene, the Hercules crew reported seeing debris in the area and watch-standers deployed the Coast Guard Cutter William Hart (WPC 1134) and Station Honolulu 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crews to assist with the search. HSM-37 aircraft joined the search and located the fisherman early Friday morning.

US President Joe Biden was pressed on how he would address the surge in migrants at the southern border at his first official press conference, being  challenged on whether his policies could be contributing to the increase in child arrivals, as more than 17,000 juveniles are being kept in government detention centers, but he had defended his record and vowed to be transparent. He also doubled his administration’s vaccine rollout goal, saying that he now aims to have 200 million jabs be given before his 100th day in office, but the situation at the US-Mexico border dominated the event.

During the White House news conference, Mr. Biden blamed his predecessor Donald Trump for the growing humanitarian crisis on the southern border, and said it was normal for the US to experience an influx of migrants in cooler months:

“The truth of the matter is, nothing has changed,” he said.

“The reason they’re coming is that it’s the time they can travel with the least likelihood of dying on the way because of the heat in the desert.”

“I’d like to think it’s because I’m a nice guy, but it’s not,” he said, calling the surge a cyclical event.

A Sydney resident and his dog were brought to safety by rescuers on Sunday, as officials have warned of “life-threatening flash floods”, with waters not expected to subside until Thursday, and seven emergency shelters opened across the state as Premier Gladys Berejiklian said parts of the Mid-North Coast were experiencing a “one in 100-year event”. Warragamba Dam, Sydney’s main water source, has been overflowing for the first time in years.

On Sunday, the Philippine defense chief demanded that more than 200 Chinese vessels he said were manned by militias leave a South China Sea reef claimed by both Manila and Beijing, warning that the Philippines would uphold its sovereign rights, after Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin later tweeted that Manila had filed a diplomatic protest over the Chinese presence.

Chinese Embassy officials did not immediately issue any comment, and Chinese fishing fleets have long been suspected of being utilized as maritime militias to help assert Beijing’s territorial claims, although China has played down those claims.

Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed a “huge win” after initial exit polls put his Likud party in the lead, but observers allege that he is likely to fall short of a majority, setting the stage for yet another deadlock, as the polls closed in Israel for the country’s fourth election in two years on Tuesday, the political future of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remained unclear.

Voting locations closed at 10 p.m. local time (2000 GMT). Exit polls released by Israeli broadcasters projected Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party would take between 31 and 33 seats in the Knesset with rival Lapid Yesh Atid winning 16 to 18 seats.

If the final results are in line with the exit polls, both sides would likely have to court Naftali Bennett, a former Netanyahu ally who now has strained relations with the prime minister. Forecasters suggest Netanyahu could have a tough time building a coalition government.

With 61 seats needed for an outright majority in the 120-seat parliament, it could be several days before an outcome is known and a potential fifth consecutive election cannot be ruled out.
