US fashion giant Gap has confirmed it plans to close all its 81 stores in the UK and Ireland and go online-only, saying it would close all its stores “in a phased manner” between the end of August and the end of September, including 19 stores that were already scheduled to close in July as their leases were expiring.
The company has not disclosed how many employees the closures will affect, but will shortly start a consultation process with the staff.

In a verdict that is final and cannot be appealed any further, the UN War Crimes Tribunal upheld the conviction of Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic, 78, known as the “Butcher of Bosnia,” for his role in the genocide in Srebrenica, the siege of Sarajevo, and other war crimes. He was convicted in 2017 and sentenced to life in prison for his role as Bosnian Serb military commander during the war in Bosnia, which lasted from 1992 until 1995.

The court upheld Mladic’s conviction at the now-shuttered International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The five-judge panel Tuesday was led by Presiding Judge Prisca Matimba Nyambe of Zambia.

Shipping goods is much faster and cheaper by combining air and rail service, since it normally takes about 40 days to ship goods from Japan to Europe by sea, while flying them to China’s Changsha or Xi’an, then loading them on the China Railway Express, takes 20 to 30 days and less than half the cost of flying them the entire way.
