2…………….> Angola Prison Brutality: Beating a Handcuffed and Shackled Inmate

Daniel Davis, 44, a former major at Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) in Angola, Louisiana, was found guilty by a jury yesterday in federal court for his participation in the beating of an inmate who was handcuffed, shackled, and not resisting and for failing to intervene to stop his subordinates from participating in the same beating. In a previous trial in January 2018, Davis was convicted of conspiring with other officers to cover up the beating by devising a false cover story, submitting false reports documenting that cover story, tampering with witnesses, and lying under oath. Davis was also previously convicted of this beating in November 2018, but was granted a new trial based on juror misconduct.

Four other officers—former LSP Captains James Savoy, John Sanders, and Scotty Kennedy, and former Sergeant Willie Thomas—have all previously pleaded guilty for their roles in the beating and cover up. At Davis’s trial, Captains Sanders and Kennedy testified for the government and described the abuse and the extensive cover up.

After hearing testimony over the course of three days, the jury convicted Davis of willfully depriving the inmate of his right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment. The evidence showed that Davis initiated the beating by yanking the inmate’s leg chains, causing the inmate to fall face-first onto the concrete breezeway. At that point, Davis and the other officers punched, kicked, and stomped on the inmate, leaving the inmate with a dislocated shoulder, a hematoma, a collapsed lung, and broken ribs.

3…………> Iranian Trojan Horse: Feeding Terror With US Millions

The Department of Justice announced that Bahram Karimi was charged with conspiring to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, and making false statements in connection with his involvement in a joint project initiated by the Governments of Iran and Venezuela in which more than $115 million was illegally funneled through the U.S. financial system for the benefit of various Iranian individuals and entities. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan.

“Karimi allegedly conspired in an infrastructure project initiated by the Governments of Iran and Venezuela,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers.

“He then lied to banks about Iranian involvement and took advantage of the U.S. financial system to benefit Iranian parties. The Department of Justice will continue to prosecute those who misuse our financial system in violation of U.S. sanctions.”

“As alleged, Bahram Karimi knowingly and willfully facilitated the circumventing of sanctions against Iran, and then lied about it to FBI agents,” said U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman for the Southern District of New York. “Karimi allegedly enabled the concealed transfer through U.S. banks of more than $100 million from a Venezuelan state-owned company to an Iranian construction firm, and when questioned, told the agents he didn’t know that was prohibited by the sanctions.

4…………> The End Of Pelosi/Schiff Criminal Charade: Final Arguments

President Trump has been accused of abuse of power and obstruction of justice since taking office in 2016, and  according to the House Democrats, he attempted to pressure his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating the activities of Hunter Biden and his father, ex-Vice President Joe, “Sleeping in a wrong century” Biden.
The prosecution and defense teams are each given two hours to deliver their positions before the lawmakers cast their votes on the articles of impeachment.
The Senate previously voted 51-49 to bar witness testimonies during the impeachment trial and thus it is scheduled to conclude with a final vote on Wednesday, 5 February.

2………….> Corona Virus US Job Creator: Out Of The Blue

US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said  that the corona-virus outbreak is a positive development for the US economy in the long run, as the virus is “another risk factor” companies will have to take into account when choosing to do business in China.

“You had SARS [severe acute respiratory syndrome]; you have the African swine virus there; now you have this. It’s another risk factor that people need to take into account, so I think it will help to accelerate the return of jobs to North America – some to US, probably some to Mexico as well,” he said said.

The corona-virus, which originated in Wuhan, China, in December, has claimed the lives of at least 171 individuals and infected at least 8,240.

3……………> The Sloppy SW Airlines: Slammed By The Feds?

Following an 18-month investigation, the FAA accused Southwest Airlines of failing to prioritize passenger safety, and also alleged that the regulator lacked proper oversight of the airline in recent years, allowing  Southwest to fly 17 million passengers on planes that had “no certified maintenance records,” an example of that when a Southwest jet smashed two wingtips on the runway while attempting to land during high winds in 2019.

The report specifically referenced FAA managers at the agency’s Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, office who supervised Southwest – which is headquartered in Dallas – and allowed the airline “to fly aircraft with unresolved safety concerns.” According to the audit, almost two-thirds of the 46 FAA employees interviewed during the OIG’s investigation “raised concerns about the culture at Southwest.”

“It is clear that the Agency is not yet effectively navigating the balance between industry collaboration and managing safety risks at the carrier,” the report said of the FAA.

4……………> Schiff Barbecue & Ribs Stand: Trump Or Deep State On Fire?

Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry against President Trump in autumn last year following a whistle-blower’s complaint that the US president pressed his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky to investigate former US Vice-President Joe Biden and his son Hunter regarding their business activities in Ukraine.

The US Senate is holding a question-and-answer session in Washington as President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial enters its ninth day following an ultimatum by Senate Majority Leader Mitch, “Harry’s Twin” McConnell that gave Democrats and Republicans 24 hours each to deliver their opening arguments (actual process took more than three days). Later, Senators were given a total of 16 hours to submit their questions in written form to House prosecutors or the White House defense team.

2………….> NRA vs Virginia’s Communist Government: The Beginning Of The Final Battle

Police and citizens came ready to face violence as pro-gun activists streamed in from across the US to join the demonstration, protesting a proposed set of reforms to limit firearm ownership in the state, as pro-gun men, clad in camouflage and waving flags with messages of support for President Trump, arrived several hours before the gathering’s official start. Large crowds of protesters chanted “We will not disarm,” in unison, while other attendees wore stickers saying “Guns save lives,” and displayed pistols and rifles in the streets.

The gathering which was organized on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a holiday marking the legacy of the African-American civil rights leader, also fell on Virginia’s “Lobby Day,” an annual event which allows citizens to meet with state legislators.

Activists gathered from across the United States to argue that their constitutional rights were being infringed upon by a proposed package of eight bills to change Virginia state firearms laws, including a bill to limit handgun purchases to one per month, a law to require background checks on all firearms purchases and transfers, bans on guns from certain events and public spaces, and a ban on assault rifles.

3……………> AG William P. Barr Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Dr. King wrote in his famous letter while confined to a narrow cell in the Birmingham city jail. In the face of grave intolerance, Dr. King exemplified great moral and physical courage, playing a seminal role in the fight for civil rights and leading our nation to a better destiny. As the Department of Justice celebrates its sesquicentennial year, let us be motivated by the example of Dr. King, always seeking and striving for the fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.

4…………> Trump Or Not: Migrants Wave Splashes into Southern Mexico

A deluge of predominantly Honduran migrants crossed the Suchiate River into southern Mexico on Monday in a new test President Trump’s Central America strategy to keep migrants away from the US border, as riot police attempted to stop the the migrants who want free passage across Mexico to the US border, a part of a new policy not allowing migrants to cross its territory unimpeded after the US threatened sanctions.

The Central American migrants moved off the Guatemala-Mexico border bridge and toward the river after Mexican officials told them they would not be granted passage through the country.

On the Mexican side of the river, migrants ran from side to side, kicking up dust on the river bank and looking for an opening in the ranks of National Guard troops sent to meet them.

5………..> Get It Over With: Trump’s Lawyers

Demanding that President Trump’s is immediately acquitted by the Senate,  his legal team, representing him at his impeachment trial, filed a brief, alleging that the impeachment is “a dangerous perversion” of the constitution, a move countered by the House impeachment managers who submitted their own brief, saying Mr. Trump engaged in “corrupt conduct… to cheat in the next election”, basically using the infamous sociology rule of the “Hecklers veto” to shut down the “opposition.”

During the course of the trial, Senators will hear arguments for six hours a day, six days a week, presided over by the US chief justice, John Roberts, in the only third time in US history that a president is facing an impeachment trial.

The 171-page brief submitted by the legal team is the first comprehensive defense of the president, undercutting the charges against Mr. Trump, branding them “frivolous and dangerous” and arguing that they don’t constitute either a crime or an impeachable offense.

“House Democrats settled on two flimsy Articles of Impeachment that allege no crime or violation of law whatsoever – much less ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanours’ as required by the Constitution,” it said.

“They do not remotely approach the constitutional threshold for removing a President from office.”
