A federal court entered a permanent injunction halting a purported “ozone therapy” center in Dallas, Texas, from offering unproven treatments for corona-virus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Justice announced today.
In a civil complaint and accompanying court papers filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the Department of Justice alleged that the defendants, Purity Health and Wellness Centers and one of the firm’s principals, Jean Juanita Allen, fraudulently promoted so-called ozone therapy as a treatment for COVI-19.The defendants agreed to be bound by a permanent injunction barring them from representing that ozone could be used to treat or cure COVI-19. The order was entered by U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay in Dallas:
“The Department of Justice will not stand by and permit the fraudulent promotion of supposed COVI-19 treatments that do no good and that could be harmful,We are working with law enforcement and agency partners to stop those who attempt to profit by selling useless products during this pandemic”, said Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt of the Justice Department’s Civil Division.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Special Response Team (SRT) arrested one of ICE’s Most Wanted fugitives during a targeted operation near South Gate, California, April 24, a repeat offender and aggravated felon Julio Garcia-Castellano, also known as Victor Garcia Ignacio, 33, is an unlawfully present Guatemalan national and was convicted of second-degree rape by the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon for Lane County, Feb. 1, 2010.
Garcia-Castellano has two previous removals in 2007 and 2016. He illegally re-entered the United States at an unknown place and time. He was arrested by California Highway Patrol for driving under the influence in December. Those charges are pending.
ERO officers obtained a federal warrant of arrest for Garcia-Castellano in Los Angeles for illegal reentry of a previously removed felon. After completion of ICE processing, Garcia-Castellano was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) where he remains pending federal felony prosecution.
U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia obtained a warrant Friday authorizing seizure of coronaprevention.org following an HSI Philadelphia investigation in support of Operation Stolen Promise. HSI recently launched Operation Stolen Promise to protect the homeland and global supply-chain from the increasing and evolving threat posed by COVID-19-related fraud and criminal activity by combining HSI’s expertise in global trade investigations, financial fraud, and cyber investigations with robust private and public partnerships.

Beginning on the date that is 3 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, any facility at which aliens in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security are detained shall be owned and operated by the Department of Homeland Security.
(b) Non-Secure Detention Programs.—Beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security may not enter into, or extend, any contract with any public or private for-profit entity that owns or operates a program or facility that provides for non-residential detention-related activities for aliens who are subject to monitoring by the Department of Homeland Security, and shall terminate any such contact not later than the date that is 3 years after the date of the enactment of this Act. Beginning on the date that is 3 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, any such program or facility shall be owned and operated by a nonprofit organization or by the Department of Homeland Security,“(6) SPECIAL RULE FOR VULNERABLE PERSONS AN PRIMARY CAREGIVERS.—In a case in which an alien who is the subject of a custody determination under this subsection is a vulnerable person or a primary caregiver, the alien may not be detained unless the Government shows, in addition to the requirements under paragraph (3), that it is unreasonable or not practicable to place the individual in a community-based supervision program.
“(7) DEFINITION.—In this subsection, the term ‘vulnerable person’ means an individual who—
“(A) is under 21 years of age or over 60 years of age;
“(B) is pregnant;
“(C) identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or intersex;
“() is victim or witness of a crime;
“(E) has filed a non-frivolous civil rights claim in Federal or State court;
“(F) has a serious mental or physical illness or disability;
“(G) has been determined by an asylum officer in an interview conducted under section 235(b)(1)(B) to have a credible fear of persecution or a reasonable fear of persecution under section 208.31 or 241.8(e) of title 8, Code of Federal Regulations (as in effect on the date of the enactment of the New Way Forward Act);
“(H) has limited English language proficiency and is not provided access to appropriate and meaningful language services in a timely fashion; or

The number of cases of COVID-19 reported worldwide passed 2 million overnight, reaching 2,000,984, after it took 83 days to reach the first million cases worldwide, and just 14 days for the second million, with the global death toll now stands at more than 128,000, but experts caution that the virus is likely to have infected far more people, as it can be present in people who display mild or even no symptoms, and haven’t necessarily been tested.
The biggest cluster of current cases has moved from China, where the new corona-virus first emerged in December, to the United States, which now has the highest death toll at more than 26,000 from over 600,000 confirmed cases(estimates now indicate up to 40 million infections may be present in the US, due to under-reporting by China controlled WHO).
Four other countries have over 100,000 confirmed cases: Spain (over 177,000), Italy (over 162,000), Germany (over 132,000) and France (over 131,000).
The virus has reached all continents except Antarctica.
