2………….> Hollywood Film Producer Charged With $1.7 Million COVID-Relief Fraud
.
A California man, identified a William Sadleir, 66, of Beverly Hills,  has been charged with allegedly filing bank loan applications fraudulently seeking more than $1.7 million dollars in forgivable Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“This defendant allegedly used Paycheck Protection Program loans to pay off his personal credit card debts and other personal expenses, rather than using the funds for legitimate business needs,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

“As the department has made clear, those who defraud the PPP to line their own pockets at the expense of the American people will be brought to justice.”

“This film producer allegedly made a series of misrepresentations to a bank and the Small Business Administration to illegally secure taxpayer money that he then used to fund his nearly empty personal bank account,” said U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna of the Central District of California. “The Paycheck Protection Program was implemented to help small businesses stay afloat during the financial crisis, and we will act swiftly against those who abuse the program for their own personal gain.”

“These funds were designed to be a lifeline to businesses struggling to stay afloat during the current crisis,” said Assistant Director in Charge Paul Delacourt of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office. “The FBI is committed to maintaining the integrity of the PPP and will hold accountable those who cheat the system at the expense of American taxpayers.”

3………….> Free From COVID-19: Americans Hit The Memorial Day Beaches

.

US coronavirus task force chief Dr. Deborah Birx did not mince words, issuing a statement that she was “very concerned” after seeing such scenes:

“We really want to be clear all the time that social distancing is absolutely critical. And if you can’t social distance and you’re outside, you must wear a mask,” she said, as Lyda Krewson, the mayor of St Louis, Missouri, agreed:

“It’s irresponsible and dangerous to engage in such high risk behavior just to have some fun over the extended holiday weekend. Now, these folks will be going home to S. Louis and counties across Missouri and the Midwest, raising concerns about the potential of more positive cases, hospitalizations, and tragically, deaths. Deeply disturbing.”

Regardless of the cautious warning by COVID-19 war experts, millions of Americans have flooded beaches and lakes on Memorial Day weekend, maliciously ignoring restrictions imposed to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, as Florida state police dispersed an unauthorized gathering of hundreds of people in Daytona Beach, and in Missouri, bars at the Lake of the Ozarks were packed with revelers, who violated social-distancing rules.

Vice-President Mike Pence said that some people “would do well to be reminded about the importance of social distancing and the importance of continuing regular hygiene. We have every confidence that as restrictions are loosened in the days ahead, the American people are going to step forward and put this country back to work in a safe and responsible way.”

Memorial Day – an annual holiday held on the last Monday of May – honors all those who have died serving in the US military. It marks the unofficial start of summer.

5…………> COVID-19 2nd Wave: Health Care Experts Warning

.
Lockdown restrictions are being phased out, as the European summer vacation season approaches, with people gathering on beaches and in bars, raising call of caution by MD’s that large crowds could spark a fresh wave of infections.

Cafes and restaurants in Madrid and Barcelona, the Spanish cities hardest hit by the virus, have opened two weeks behind the rest of the country, Germany has recorded its biggest quarterly decline since the 2008-2009 global financial crisis, and Japan has ended the state of emergency in last areas, including Tokyo.
More than 5.4 million cases have been recorded globally and at least 346,000 people have died from COVID-19.

1…………> Tribute To 911 Heroes: White House

On the 17th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, President Donald J. Trump and the First Lady attended an observance in Shanksville, Pennsylvania—the site of that day’s fourth plane crash—“where a new Tower of Voices memorializes the victims of Flight 93,” Caitlin Yilek writes. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted that 17 years ago, “we received a terrible reminder of the evil in our world. In the midst of horrific tragedy America stood strong.”

2…………> AG Sessions on 911: Vigilant Forever

Thank you Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and Acting Associate Attorney General Panuccio.

Thank you to Rhea Walker for once again lending your beautiful voice to this ceremony. And thank you all for being here.

At this very hour 17 years ago, our country was changed forever. We had been struck with the deadliest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. More than 1,300 children became orphans and more than a dozen unborn children lost fathers they would never meet. The magnitude of this evil was overwhelming. And it is still overwhelming to think about. But in response to this great evil, the American people responded as they always do—with the greater good, with heroism, and with determination. Nineteen terrorists infiltrated our borders and targeted innocent people for death. But hundreds of Americans worked together to save lives. First responders performed one of the most heroic rescue missions in our history. Hundreds of them gave their lives, saving others, including 72 law enforcement officers from 10 different agencies. The brave men and women on Flight 93 prevented another target from being hit that day and saved lives. I was across the street at the Supreme Court that morning, attending the annual judicial conference as I will again this Thursday morning. Those Flight 93 heroes may well have saved our lives. Over the following months, people gave billions of dollars, thousands joined the armed forces and went off to war. Thousands of them gave their lives. We must remember them today, too. We should also remember that the Department of Justice was at the center of much of the country’s response. The country faced unprecedented security and legal challenges. At the time, we had no National Security Division. The Criminal Division did much of the work. Some of you here this morning were here on 9/11, too. You participated firsthand. We are grateful for the work that you did in the difficult days that followed. Today we are better equipped, better prepared and better organized. We have better laws. But there is more to be done as our adversaries have not abandoned their goals.

4…………> The The US Remembers 911: White House

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited a memorial in Pennsylvania to mark the 9/11 attacks 17 years ago where he delivered a speech commemorating the airplane passengers who are thought to have charged the cockpit to stop the attackers.

Ceremonies are also being held at New York City’s 9/11 Memorial Plaza on the World Trade Center site. It was the deadliest foreign attack ever on US soil, killing 2,996 people.

“America’s future is not written by our enemies. Our heroes write about America’s future,” Mr. Trump said in Shanksville on Tuesday.

“As long as this monument stands, as long as this memorial endures, brave patriots will rise in America’s hours of need and they, too, will fight back.”

The president spoke at the newly inaugurated Tower of Voices memorial, a 93ft (28m) tall structure with 40 wind chimes.

Mr. Trump praised the passengers’ “incredible valor” and said their revolt was “the moment America fought back.” “A band of brave patriots turned the tide on our nation’s enemies and joined the immortal rank of American heroes,” he said.

5…………> Florence From Space: A Monster Hurricane

More than a million people in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia have been ordered to leave their homes as Florence is predicted to make landfall near Wilmington, North Carolina, late on Thursday. The National Hurricane Center said: “Some strengthening is expected during the next day or so, and Florence is expected to be an extremely dangerous major hurricane through Thursday night.”

2…………> Recovery Sites: US Air Force

QUANG NGAI PROVINCE, Vietnam (AFNS) — The day Army Sgt. 1st Class Tommy Murphy died is still engrained into his daughter’s mind.

It was April 7, 2001, and Tycoria Johnson was just 9 years old. On that Saturday, Murphy, along with six other American service members and nine Vietnamese counterparts, departed on an MI-17 helicopter to investigate a potential recovery site.
They were part of a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency mission in search of the remains of fallen service members from the Vietnam War.
Her father was a team sergeant, she said, who supervised and did much of the planning for the team.

But as the weather worsened, the helicopter veered off course and collided with a mountain hidden by clouds in central Vietnam. No one survived.

Johnson, now a senior airman based in Japan, recently volunteered for a joint mission with DPAA, where her father once worked as a mortuary affairs specialist.

“He would talk about his missions a lot,” she said, recalling the videos he would show her of people digging at excavation sites. “I knew that he enjoyed it and I think he would be surprised that I actually signed up to do it.”

On this #MemorialDay, watch and listen as members of the #USNavy Ceremonial Guard use poetry in motion and words to share the meaning behind today’s holiday.

5…………> Applied Global Warming: Oman

The cyclone Mekunu with wind gusts of 125 mi/h dumped three years’ worth of rainfall in a single day and leaving 13 people dead in the Gulf country of Oman and neighbouring Yemen, deluging a major city leaving eight people are still missing.

The “extremely severe” cyclone left holiday destinations with empty tourist beaches, littered with debris and foam from the churning Arabian Sea.

The Port of Salalah remained closed, its cranes secured against the pounding rain and winds.
