1…………> Tribute To 911 Heroes: White House

On the 17th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, President Donald J. Trump and the First Lady attended an observance in Shanksville, Pennsylvania—the site of that day’s fourth plane crash—“where a new Tower of Voices memorializes the victims of Flight 93,” Caitlin Yilek writes. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted that 17 years ago, “we received a terrible reminder of the evil in our world. In the midst of horrific tragedy America stood strong.”

2…………> AG Sessions on 911: Vigilant Forever

Thank you Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and Acting Associate Attorney General Panuccio.

Thank you to Rhea Walker for once again lending your beautiful voice to this ceremony. And thank you all for being here.

At this very hour 17 years ago, our country was changed forever. We had been struck with the deadliest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. More than 1,300 children became orphans and more than a dozen unborn children lost fathers they would never meet. The magnitude of this evil was overwhelming. And it is still overwhelming to think about. But in response to this great evil, the American people responded as they always do—with the greater good, with heroism, and with determination. Nineteen terrorists infiltrated our borders and targeted innocent people for death. But hundreds of Americans worked together to save lives. First responders performed one of the most heroic rescue missions in our history. Hundreds of them gave their lives, saving others, including 72 law enforcement officers from 10 different agencies. The brave men and women on Flight 93 prevented another target from being hit that day and saved lives. I was across the street at the Supreme Court that morning, attending the annual judicial conference as I will again this Thursday morning. Those Flight 93 heroes may well have saved our lives. Over the following months, people gave billions of dollars, thousands joined the armed forces and went off to war. Thousands of them gave their lives. We must remember them today, too. We should also remember that the Department of Justice was at the center of much of the country’s response. The country faced unprecedented security and legal challenges. At the time, we had no National Security Division. The Criminal Division did much of the work. Some of you here this morning were here on 9/11, too. You participated firsthand. We are grateful for the work that you did in the difficult days that followed. Today we are better equipped, better prepared and better organized. We have better laws. But there is more to be done as our adversaries have not abandoned their goals.

4…………> The The US Remembers 911: White House

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited a memorial in Pennsylvania to mark the 9/11 attacks 17 years ago where he delivered a speech commemorating the airplane passengers who are thought to have charged the cockpit to stop the attackers.

Ceremonies are also being held at New York City’s 9/11 Memorial Plaza on the World Trade Center site. It was the deadliest foreign attack ever on US soil, killing 2,996 people.

“America’s future is not written by our enemies. Our heroes write about America’s future,” Mr. Trump said in Shanksville on Tuesday.

“As long as this monument stands, as long as this memorial endures, brave patriots will rise in America’s hours of need and they, too, will fight back.”

The president spoke at the newly inaugurated Tower of Voices memorial, a 93ft (28m) tall structure with 40 wind chimes.

Mr. Trump praised the passengers’ “incredible valor” and said their revolt was “the moment America fought back.” “A band of brave patriots turned the tide on our nation’s enemies and joined the immortal rank of American heroes,” he said.

5…………> Florence From Space: A Monster Hurricane

More than a million people in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia have been ordered to leave their homes as Florence is predicted to make landfall near Wilmington, North Carolina, late on Thursday. The National Hurricane Center said: “Some strengthening is expected during the next day or so, and Florence is expected to be an extremely dangerous major hurricane through Thursday night.”
