President Trump gave the Narco State of Mexico 45 days to reduce the number of migrants crossing its territory on their way North, according to Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard who procured deal to avert the imposition of tariffs on Mexican goods, an agreement described as “most difficult negotiation” that bought time to show it could succeed in driving down the number of migrants.

Mr. Ebrard said the US side also wanted to designate Mexico as a “safe third country”, which would have required Mexico to take in asylum seekers heading for the US and process their claims on its own soil, but proposal was averted for the time being:

Illegal border crossings on Mexico’s northern border with the US have been on the rise again after reaching a low in President  Trump’s first year in office, and in February, he declared an emergency on the US-Mexico border, saying it was necessary in order to tackle what he described as a crisis.

Net purchases of gold by central banks across the globe have spiked in the first quarter of 2019, surging by a whopping 68 per cent compared to this time last year, according to World Gold Council data, with China’s record-setting purchase of gold bullion continued its climb in May, growing by some 15 to 86 to over 61 million ounces total, according to recently released data from the People’s Bank of China. 

The purchase marked the sixth straight month of Beijing’s gold-buying spree, with China adding previously nearly 58 tonnes of the precious metal to its coffers amid concerns over the escalating trade conflict with the US.
