US President Donald Trump is yet to make a final decision on how to respond to a chemical weapons attack in Syria ahead of talks with allies Britain and France,
saying he “never said when” the strike would take place.
Russia described the statements emanating from Washington as “militaristic”, while the French Government says it has proof chemical weapons were used in Douma.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said US officials were “continuing to assess intelligence”.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said a possible attack on his country could trigger regional instability.

“With every victory achieved on the field, the voices of some Western states are raised and actions are intensified in an attempt by them to change the course of events … these voices and any possible action will contribute nothing but an increase in instability in the region, threatening international peace and security,” Mr. Assad said according to Syrian state television.

Damascus has denied responsibility for the incident that has widened a rift between the West and Moscow, which backs Syria’s Government.

Defence Secretary James Mattis hit a more cautious tone later that day, saying that Washington was still assessing intelligence on the suspected toxic gas attack.

Mr Trump’s latest tweet said: “Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all!”

In a whirlwind of “Tweeter Diplomacy”, President Trump told reporters that he and his team were looking “very, very seriously” at the situation, following an alleged chemical attack on the town of Douma, as the Western powers are thought to be preparing for strike Russian ally Syrian, and Moscow’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia said he “cannot exclude” the possibility of a war between Russia and the US.

“The immediate priority is to avert the danger of war,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Senior Russian figures have warned that missiles threatening the country’s forces in Syria will be shot down and their launch sites targeted.

President Vladimir Putin said that he hoped common sense will prevail.

David D. Delay, 52, of Lynnwood, Washington, was sentenced  to 33 years in prison for his predatory and exploitive scheme to recruit young women and teens to prostitution for his own enrichment, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney Annette L. Hayes of the Western District of Washington, and Special Agent in Charge Jay S. Tabb, Jr. of the FBI’s Seattle Field Office. Delay was also ordered to pay $76,700 in restitution to his victims, plus additional costs for counseling and medical care. Following prison Delay must register as a sex offender and will be on supervised release for the rest of his life. Because Delay has continued to harass his victims on social media, the judge requested the prison system and U.S. Probation limit his access to social media and computers. At today’s sentencing hearing U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik said “He deserves a long sentence and a sentence that sends a message to the community that these crimes will not be tolerated.”

At the conclusion of a ten-day trial, the jury convicted the defendant on Nov. 6, 2017, of 17 federal felonies, including one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion; three counts of sex trafficking; three counts of attempted sex trafficking; one count of conspiracy to transport individuals for purposes of prostitution; six counts of transporting individuals for purposes of prostitution; two counts of production of child pornography; and one count of obstruction of justice.

President Xi Jinping reviewed the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy in the South China Sea, declaring that the need to build a strong navy “has never been more urgent than today,” in the country’s largest navy review since its founding in 1949.

Taking part in the review were more than 10,000 service personnel, 48 vessels and 76 aircraft. They included the aircraft carrier Liaoning and latest submarines, vessels and fighter jets. More than half of the vessels were commissioned after the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.
