1…………> No Yuan Devaluation: China

“The yuan’s exchange rate is mainly determined by market supply and demand. It floats in both ways, which means there are ups and downs,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang told a press briefing about allegations by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin of manipulating the exchange rate of the currency,  pointing out at the good fundamentals of China’s economy providing strong support for the exchange rate.

“As for the United States willfully igniting a trade war, China remains resolute and clear in its stance that it does not want a trade war, but is not afraid of and will fight one when necessary,” Geng said.

The U.S. has threatened to impose tariffs on more than 500 billion U.S. dollars of goods imported from China.

“Threats and intimidation will never work on China. We are capable of and confident in safeguarding the interests of the Chinese people,” said the spokesperson.

2…………>Trump’s Wall: Environment Attack

More than 2,500 scientists endorsed an article urging the US to “recognize and give high priority to conserving the ecological, economic, political and cultural value of the US-Mexico borderlands,” pointing out that 62 species, including the Mexican grey wolf, the jaguar, and the ocelot, for a total 1,506 species on both sides of the border are threatened by extinction.

One thing the distinguished scientists forgot to mention are the human beings along the border whose lives have been destroyed by human smuggling, opioid, and drug smuggling, and ultimately by the raging war between the NARCO state of Mexico cartels

3…………> Witness Of Red Terror: Unsung Hero

Vasily Kovalyov, a fortunate man to have had survived icy punishment cells and beatings in the USSR’s notorious Gulag prison system during the years of “Red Terror” in Stalin-era labor camps, has died aged 89 in Russia’s far east.

In 1950 Kovalyov, aged 20, was found guilty of anti-Soviet sabotage – one among the millions of victims of Stalinist terror. An old saber that he had used to chop vegetables was enough to condemn him.

4…………> Trump’s ICE Broom: NY

ICE officers arrested 65 during a 5-day period, ending July 20 in New York City, and on Long Island for violating U.S. immigration laws, with 64 of those arrested, had been previously removed from the United States and returned illegally. Of those arrested, 29 individuals were previously released from local law enforcement custody with an active detainer. Several had prior felony convictions for serious or violent offenses, such as sexual offenses, weapons charges, and assault, or had past convictions for significant or multiple misdemeanors.

“In this operation 64 of the 65 arrested had already been removed from this country, and the majority have either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges,” said Thomas R. Decker, field office director for ERO New York. “The fact is that ICE in New York continues to enforce immigration laws as they have always done, targeting criminal aliens and removing them from our streets. The rhetoric is copious, blurring the lines of fact versus fiction. But despite all the criticism, our officers continue to work daily with professionalism and integrity, enforcing the law as set forth by Congress.”

5…………> Let’s Go Fishing: Mars

In a massive shot in the arm for the search for life on Mars, a giant, 15 miles “lake” of liquid water seems to be buried beneath the ice near the red planet’s south pole, detected by the MARSIS ground-penetrating radar instrument on the Mars Express spacecraft.

Whether that body of water is a relic of past oceans or part of a bigger network of subterranean lakes is still a mystery,

“We need to determine if this discovery is unique or if it’s something that exists elsewhere on Mars,” said Dr. Roberto Orosei, a planetary scientist at the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics
