.HOUSTON – A 30-year-old Southeast Texas man, identified as Marcus Ryan Howell, a resident of Lake Jackson, who posted hundreds of images depicting child pornography on two separate public blogs in 2017 and 2018 was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison. He was sentenced Oct. 13 in the Southern District of Texas to 151 months in federal prison for two counts of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Howell pleaded guilty to the charges on March 12.

Following his prison term, Howell will be required to serve 10 years on supervised release, during which time he will have to comply with numerous conditions that restrict his access to children and the internet, and be required to register as a sex offender.

HOUSTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) announced the results of an operation targeting sex trafficking in Fort Bend County, Texas, code-named “Operation Patriot” targeted sex trafficking organizations and sex buyers from Sept. 9 – 16, which bagged forty-six individuals, including six arrests for promotion of prostitution, 40 arrests for prostitution and six arrests for narcotics.

HSI Houston Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) Mary Magness explained why it is critical to target both the trafficking organizations and the sex buyers.

“What we often find is if you only eliminate the supply-side of sex trafficking, another criminal organization will move in to fulfill the demand,” explained ASAC Magness.
“So we simultaneously target both the organizations behind the sex trafficking and the people who support it, to more effectively eradicate this vile criminal activity from the community.”

The White House spokesperson Alyssa Farah told reporters that based on examination by health care professionals, President Trump did not get the COVID-19 infection after meeting with the families of soldiers who died while serving in the military, contradicting his statement suggested in an interview, saying he could not ask them to keep their distance.

“Based on contact tracing, the data we have, we don’t think it arose from that event,” Farah said.

Trump was hosting a meeting reception on 27 September, where Gold Star families reportedly attended.

The White House staff did take a lot of precautions for that event, Farah said.

“His point was merely that in the timeframe that he was potentially exposed, there were a number of different venues he’d been at and individuals he had interacted with that it could have come from – and by no means are blaming anyone who was present,” she added.

After a two-week trial, a Chicago federal jury found two former employees of Deutsche Bank guilty of fraud charges for their respective roles in fraudulent and manipulative trading practices involving publicly-traded precious metals futures contracts. James Vorley, 42, of the United Kingdom, and Cedric Chanu, 40, of France and the United Arab Emirates, were convicted of three counts and seven counts, respectively, of wire fraud affecting a financial institution.  Sentencing has been scheduled for Jan. 21, 2021, before U.S. District Judge John J. Tharp, Jr. of the Northern District of Illinois, who presided over the trial.

“Today’s jury verdict shows that those who seek to manipulate our public financial markets through fraud will be held accountable by juries and the department,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

A California-based man, identified as David Nava, 62, pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to defraud shareholders of publicly traded companies, transmitting millions of dollars through the operation of an unlicensed money-services business in California, and falsifying multiple years of federal tax returns.   

Mr. Nava, 62, of La Jolla, California, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, one count of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business  (MTB), and one count of tax fraud before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen S. Crawford of the Southern District of California.  Sentencing is set for Jan. 8, 2021.

According to the plea agreement filed in court, Nava was at all relevant times the CEO of the Surf Financial Group LLC (Surf Financial), a financial-services firm based in La Jolla, California.  In 1994, federal securities regulators permanently banned and censured Nava from participating in the securities industry.  Despite the two-decades’ old ban, Nava admitted in the plea agreement that he and other co-conspirators, including a licensed attorney, converted the debt of various publicly traded companies under materially false and fraudulent pretenses into unrestricted stock and then sold the stock for profit.  Nava further admitted that he and his co-conspirators carried out their fraudulent scheme by entering into agreements in which Nava sold shares of various entities’ stock in public-market exchanges, only after fraudulently claiming an exemption from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) registration requirements for selling securities in the public marketplace.

Pursuant to an investigation by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern istrict of New York (SNY) unsealed an indictment Monday of five individuals for various drug and weapons charges.

The indictment alleges Jose Sergio Martinez-Aguilar, 39; Vladimir Pulstilinkov, 44; Miguel Lovos, 31; Sebastian Ramos, 29; and Ricardo Ruiz-Salinas, 43; were members of an international drug trafficking organization. The government charges Martinez-Aguilar of Thermal, California; and Lovos of Indio, California, with three counts of narcotics conspiracy and one count of firearms possession in connection with drug trafficking. Pulstilinkov, also of Indio, is charged with two counts of narcotics conspiracy and one count of firearms possession in connection with drug trafficking. Ramos and Ruiz-Salinas, both of Brooklyn, New York, each are charged with one count of narcotics conspiracy. If convicted, the accused could face 10 years to life imprisonment.

“As alleged, Martinez-Aguilar and his crew funneled highly addictive drugs across the southern border and from coast to coast, seeking to make a hefty profit off those addicted to his product,” said Peter C. Fitzhugh, special agent in charge of HSI New York.

“This case makes it clear that HSI’s capabilities across borders and across the country leaves no one safe from the long arm of the law, and justice will be served”.

Police in the emirate say they recovered £32m in cash, 13 luxury cars worth .8m, 21 computers, 47 smartphones and the addresses of nearly two million alleged victims, Mr. Abbas and Mr. Ponle were both extradited to the US and charged in a Chicago court with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and laundering hundreds of millions of dollars obtained from cybercrimes.

A Tampa man was sentenced today to 11 years and three months in federal prison for sex trafficking of minors and was ordered to forfeit a Glock 19 9mm handgun and cellular phone, both of which were used during the commission of the offenses, the  case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Two young girls were saved from a life of human trafficking with this investigation, said HSI Tampa Assistant Special Agent in Charge Michael Cochran. HSI agents will continue to uncover, dismantle and disrupt human trafficking, around the globe, and right here in our own communities.

According to court documents, in May 2019, Luis Berrios-Trinidad, 30, of Tampa, began communicating with undercover law enforcement agents regarding the commercial sex trafficking of underage females. Berrios-Trinidad represented that he had access to girls ranging in age from 14 to 17 years old, and that the price per girl was between 60-180 an hour.

On June 6, 2019, Berrios-Trinidad arranged to bring two underage females to a hotel for a sex party with adult men. On that evening, he arrived with two girls, ages 14 and 17. Once inside the hotel room, Berrios-Trinidad was arrested, and the victims were rescued.

The case was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Middle District Florida Assistant United States Attorney Candace Garcia Rich. Berrios-Trinidad had pleaded guilty January 30, 2020.

This investigation was conducted under HSI’s Operation Predator, an international initiative to protect children from sexual predators. Since the launch of Operation Predator in 2003, HSI has arrested more than 25,000 individuals for crimes against children, including the production and distribution of online child exploitation material, traveling overseas for sex with minors, and sex trafficking of children. In fiscal year 2019, more than 3,500 child predators were arrested by HSI special agents under this initiative and more than 1,000 victims identified or rescued,
