EL PASO, Texas – An area man was arrested last week for harboring and transporting more than 100 noncitizens who were driven to various U.S. cities in tractor-trailers. Roberto Benavides, 47, was arrested at his residence in the 14000 block of Warren Belin Drive in Horizon City, Texas. He was a target of an HSI El Paso investigation for more than a year.

LOS ANGELES – Special agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) this morning arrested two people named in an indictment alleging a scheme to launder the proceeds of scams sent to fraudsters via Target gift cards.

Bowen Hu, 26, of Hacienda Heights, and Tairan Shi, 27, of Diamond Bar, both Chinese nationals, were taken into custody today and are expected to be arraigned this afternoon in U.S. District Court in downtown Los Angeles.

A Missouri man has been executed for murder despite pleas for clemency by advocates who said he had an intellectual disability, as Ernest Johnson received a lethal injection last week after the US Supreme Court refused to consider a stay of execution earlier in the day.
