NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The mastermind behind an extensive drug trafficking ring entered a guilty plea this week, and four other defendants either entered pleas or were sentenced recently to substantial terms in prison for distributing large amounts of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine in Newport News, Virginia, and North Carolina:

Ramirez-Barreto was linked to the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, as were his drug sources. His operation supplied cocaine, heroin and fentanyl to numerous drug trafficking organizations in Newport News, Virginia, and in Henderson and Greensboro, North Carolina.
LOS ANGELES – A San Gabriel Valley man was sentenced today to 120 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining $147 million from tens of thousands of investors around the world in a massive investment scam where a multinational company issued a phony digital currency purportedly backed by billions of dollars’ worth of amber and other gemstones.
This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation.
Steve Chen, 63, a.k.a. “Li Chen” and “Boss,” of Bradbury, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John F. Walter, who found that Chen’s “litany of lies” promoted a scam of “epic proportions.” Chen pleaded guilty in June 2020 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of tax evasion.
Chen was the owner and chief executive officer of U.S. Fine Investment Arts, Inc. (USFIA), and six other companies that used the same Arcadia address. From July 2013 until September 2015, Chen fraudulently promoted and solicited USFIA investments, and he ultimately obtained approximately $147 million from 72,000 victims, in one of the largest pyramid schemes ever prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California.
