Over 120 law enforcement officers from 30 law enforcement agencies in Virginia, North Carolina and Texas executed a major arrest operation over the last three days, resulting in 35 of defendants being arrested for their respective roles in a conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute large amounts of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and cocaine base in Hampton Roads.

The 39 co-conspirators were involved in an alleged large-scale drug trafficking conspiracy that began in March 2016, with the co-conspirators participating in various criminal acts throughout the alleged conspiracy, including armed drug distribution, while assuming and carrying out different roles such as a supplier, packager, transporter, financier, distributor, and facilitator throughout the life of the alleged drug trafficking ring.

Throughout the life of the drug trafficking ring, the co-conspirators used at least 94 different telecommunication devices such as pre-paid cell phones, Facebook, and encrypted communications apps like FaceTime and WhatsApp to conduct the day-to-day operations, including negotiating prices, and arranging locations for purchasing and selling the drugs.

In addition to the arrests, law enforcement seized 24 firearms, 30 kilograms of fentanyl, 30 kilograms of heroin, 5 kilograms of cocaine, and over $700,000 in cash during the three-day takedown.

As more than three months of protests in Hong Kong have continued unabated, speculation has grown that Beijing could send security forces to quash unrest, as the build-up of vehicles and personnel in neighbouring Shenzhen has fuelled discussion about the possibility of an impending Tiananmen Square-like violent crackdown, following a Xinhua report that the PLA had undertaken a “normal routine annual rotation”, sending new troops to Hong Kong to maintain “prosperity and stability” of the city.

The media broadcast a PR video of armored vehicles and trucks driving across the Hong Kong border, despite claims the rotation was “routine”, the timing amplifying fears that Beijing could be preparing to intervene directly in Hong Kong with the PLA.

4…………> Hurricane Dorian: ‘Extremely dangerous’ 

Hurricane Dorian will strengthen into an “extremely dangerous” storm, as it barrels towards the US, with the storm is expected to hit Florida as a 130mph category four, and forecasters warn it could be the state’s worst storm since category five Hurricane Andrew killed 65 people and destroyed 63,000 homes in 1999.

Dorian is projected to make landfall on Monday, which is Labor Day, a public holiday in the US, and it is moving slowly – at just 12mph as it crawls north-west across the ocean surface, with the storm  packing winds of 110mph, just shy of category three, that could cause “incredibly catastrophic damage” and life-threatening storm surges,is also expected to drop up to 12in  of rain on the coastal US, with some areas getting as much as 15inch.

The NHC has issued a hurricane watch for the north-western Bahamas, warning that heavy rain “may cause life-threatening flash floods”,as tides in the region are already at some of their highest levels of the year.

Police are searching the Vermont Capitol building and evacuating employees, adding that nearby streets were blocked off, with some state government buildings have been on lockdown in Vermont’s Capitol complex in Montpelier, after a report of a gunman, according to the governor’s office.

State Buildings Commissioner Christopher Cole was quoted by AP as saying that a member of the public had reported that someone was seen going into the building that houses the Vermont Department of Taxes at 133 State Street with what appeared to be a long gun.
