The blatantly irresponsible security forces in Myanmar used rubber bullets and tear gas against anti-coup protesters who rallied to defy a ban on gatherings, as demonstrators want power restored to the deposed civilian government and freedom for the nation’s elected leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, and her allies, by taking to the streets of major cities for the fourth day in a row, with police in the capital, Naypyitaw, firing rubber bullets at the demonstrators after earlier blasting them with water cannon:

“I saw a lot of people wearing hard hats today from the sort of things that you see in construction sites, as well as a lot more people wearing sneakers,” said the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Aye Min Thant, who uses the pronoun they, said that the protesters were prepared for violence. Thant, who added that people in Burma typically wear sandals no matter the weather.

“The leaders on the ground in terms of the civil disobedience movement, their goals are largely to cripple or to completely stop the state from being able to function,” Thant said.

The storming of the US Capitol last month left five people dead, over 100 police officers injured and millions of dollars in damage to the building, with most of the rioters were allowed to leave the building without facing arrest, but a month-long search for offenders has resulted in charges against a reported 221 people, and among those arrested, there have been state lawmakers, military veterans and even a gold medal-winning Olympian.

Below are five most important things unearthed by investigators:

1. Ties to right-wing extremist groups were few

2. More rioters came from ‘Biden counties’ than ‘Trump counties’

3. The crowd was not a young one.
Much like other right-wing activists arrested for deadly violence since 2015, the protesters facing charges have been predominantly white and male.

4. Many of them say Trump motivated them.
Some of those involved in storming the Capitol have suggested they were at least partially motivated by Donald Trump.

5. Military members and veterans were involved.
The Pentagon has acknowledged that “some of the extremists who stormed the US Capitol on January 6 were active duty service members and others were military veterans.”

It remains unclear how many off-duty police officers may have been involved, but reports suggest that at least 31 police officers from agencies across the US are under investigation for their alleged participation in the protest and the eventual mob violence at the Capitol.
