The Canadian Dominion Diamond mine says it has broken its own record for the largest diamond ever found in North America, announcing the “unexpected” discovery of a 552-carat yellow gemstone.
The company says this diamond “far surpasses” the previous record-holding stone found at the mine in 2015.
It was found in October at the Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories, which is 135 miles south of the Arctic Circle.
“We believed that Xiangyu Zhang, 22 presented a real danger to the community based on the threats that he made on the Veteran’s Crisis Hotline, shortly after being alerted to those threats, our special agents conducted their investigation, secured an arrest warrant, and located and arrested Zhang before he had the opportunity to harm anyone,” said Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Mark Dawson, HSI Houston, as an illegal alien from China pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as an illegal alien and to aggravated identity theft.
Zhang came to law enforcement’s attention in July 2018 when he threatened to use firearms to kill school children during an internet chat session on the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Crisis Line, and law enforcement officers arrested him at a gas station close to his residence, sitting in a vehicle with two loaded and ready-to-fire firearms, including an AM-15 rifle.

The indictment also charges Bush for using and discharging a firearm during and about those crimes of violence. The indictment alleges that Bush committed the offenses after substantial planning and premeditation, that he killed more than one person in a single criminal episode, and that he knowingly created a grave risk of death to others on the scene. The maximum penalty for the charges in the indictment is life imprisonment or the death penalty. The Justice Department will determine at a later date whether, in this particular case, it will seek the death penalty. “The crimes alleged in this indictment are horrific,” Acting Attorney General Whitaker said. “We cannot and will not tolerate violence motivated by racism.
