While President Trump and the Mayor of Portland have blamed each other for violence at ongoing Black Lives Matter protests, where a man was fatally shot in the chest and killed 15 minutes after Mr. Trump’s supporters left the downtown protest area where they, and left-wing demonstrators clashed, with the Mayor warning those who have planned to travel to the city “to seek retribution” to stay away. It did not take long for the President to return the fire with fire, as on Sunday, Mr. Trump called Mayor Ted Wheeler a “fool” on Twitter, and said to “Bring in the National Guard”, while Mr. Wheeler blamed the President for creating such a toxic environment:
“It’s you who have created the hate and the division,” the Democratic Mayor said of Mr. Trump.
“You’ve tried to divide us more than any other figure in modern history. And now you want me to stop the violence that you helped create.”
Mr. Trump had earlier issued a flurry of tweets and retweets, including several blaming Mr. Wheeler for the death, and one in which the President appeared to be encouraging his supporters to move into Portland.
“GREAT PATRIOTS!” Mr. Trump wrote as he shared video of his supporters driving into Portland to confront the protesters.
Video from the scene showed sporadic fighting, as well as Mr. Trump’s supporters firing paintball pellets at opponents and using bear spray as counter-protesters threw things at the pro-Trump caravan.

President Trump and his Democratic rival “Uncle” Joe, “Sleeping in a wrong century” Biden clashed over the violence that erupted at protests in Portland, Oregon, with the President
blaming the Democrat mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, for allowing the “death and destruction of his city”, as Mr. Biden saying the president was “recklessly encouraging violence”.
A man was shot dead in Portland on Saturday as elsewhere in the city a pro-Trump rally clashed with Black Lives Matter protesters, Mayor Wheeler warning against people coming to the city to seek revenge amid a flurry of social media posts:
“For those of you saying on Twitter this morning that you plan to come to Portland to seek retribution, I’m calling on you to stay away,” he said.
He also hit back at Mr. Trump’s criticism, saying it was the US president who had “created the hate and the division”.
“I’d appreciate it if the president would support us or stay the hell out of the way,” he said. Some activists have called for the mayor’s resignation, saying he was not capable of resolving the protests.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Mr. Trump said that “Portland will never recover with a fool for a mayor”, and suggested sending federal forces to the city.
He also accused Mr. Biden of being “unwilling to lead”.
