Attorney General William P. Barr today directed the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to schedule the executions of four federal death-row inmates who were convicted of murdering children in violation of federal law and who, in two cases, raped the children they murdered.
In July 2019, Attorney General Barr directed the BOP to revise the Federal Execution Protocol to provide for the use of a single-drug, pentobarbital — similar to protocols used in hundreds of state executions and repeatedly upheld by federal courts, including the Supreme Court, as consistent with the Eighth Amendment. A district court’s preliminary injunction prevented BOP from carrying out executions under the revised protocol, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit vacated that injunction — clearing the way for the federal government to resume capital punishment after a nearly two-decade hiatus.
“The American people, acting through Congress and Presidents of both political parties, have long instructed that defendants convicted of the most heinous crimes should be subject to a sentence of death,” said Attorney General William P. Barr.
“The four murderers whose executions are scheduled today have received full and fair proceedings under our Constitution and laws. We owe it to the victims of these horrific crimes, and to the families left behind, to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system.”

Dexamethasone, a cheap, widely available and used steroid, is the first drug shown to be able to save lives among COVID-19 patients in what British scientists have hailed as a “major breakthrough”, as the drug was shown to reduce death rates among patients on ventilators or receiving oxygen.
Giving low doses of the generic steroid Dexamethasone to patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 reduced death rates by around a third among those with the most severe cases of infection, trial data has shown.
The results, described as a “major breakthrough” by scientists leading the UK-led clinical trial known as RECOVERY, suggest the drug should immediately become standard care in patients treated in hospital with the pandemic disease.

Following weeks of country wide protests over accusations of police brutality, President Trump has signed an executive order introducing several police reforms while rejecting calls to defund or dismantle the police, awarding federal grants to improve police practices, and creating a database to trace abuses by officers, a consequence of national outrage and anger over the killing of African Americans by police officers.
Mr. Trump began by saying he had met a number of African American families who had lost loved ones, including the relatives of Antwon Rose, Botham Jean and Ahmaud Arbery – the black jogger killed in Georgia earlier this year, defending police while condemning looters and “anarchy”:
“We have to find common ground. But I strongly oppose the radical and dangerous efforts to defund, dismantle and dissolve our police departments, without police, there’s chaos”.
“Americans believe we must support the brave men and women in blue who police our streets and keep us safe,” Mr. Trump said.
“Americans also believe we must improve accountability, increase transparency and invest more resources in police training, recruiting and community engagement.”
