Arash Sepehri departed the U.S. from Washington Dulles Airport escorted by ERO officers and transited through John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Azerbaijan, and arrived at the Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran.
“Those who threaten our national and global security may not live and operate undetected, nor may they hide from our courts across international borders,” said Lyle A. Boelens, acting field office director for ERO Washington.
“I commend all of the law enforcement agents and officers involved in bringing Sepehri to justice and effecting his expeditious removal.”
On Feb. 26, 2019, USDC convicted Sepehri for violating the International Economic Powers Act and sentenced him to 26 months incarceration.

The former Sheriff of Philadelphia John Green, 72, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to serve five years in prison followed by one year of supervised release, and ordered to forfeit $76,581.
John Green was convicted of conspiring to defraud the citizens of Philadelphia of his honest services as Sheriff of Philadelphia by receiving and accepting a stream of hidden personal benefits from co-defendant James Davis in exchange for giving Davis millions of dollars of business at the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office.
From 2002 to 2011, Green accepted hidden bribes and kickbacks from his co-defendant Davis totaling over $675,000.
“Sheriff Green sold the business of his office for hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and kickbacks,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.“Today’s sentence holds him accountable for his near-decade-long betrayal of the public trust.”
