On Nov. 2, a federal indictment against three Puerto Rican men, identified as Arnaldo Vazquez, 41, aka “Naldo,” aka “Naldo. Dish;” Awildo Jimenez, 36, aka “Wildo,” “joselo626,” and “wildo20;” and Higinio Lamboy, 46, aka “Ingi,” was unsealed after their arrest for their roles in a conspiracy to provide pirated DISH Network (DISH) services to thousands of Puerto Ricans. The DISH is a Colorado-based company that provides satellite television to its customers for a fee and has invested heavily in measures to ensure that its services are not intercepted by copyright infringers, also known as pirates. The three-count indictment charges the three men with one count of conspiracy to circumvent protective systems, infringe copyrights and traffic in satellite decryption devices, one substantive number of trafficking in technology designed to avoid technology copyright protection systems and one substantive count of circumventing a technological measure that protects a copyrighted work. The indictment describes Vazquez and Jimenez as owners and operators of a company that provided the pirated services to customers who paid a monthly cash fee to receive copyrighted content delivered from DISH satellites and identifies Lamboy as their salesman and repairman for the hardware that they provided to their customers. The indictment further describes an elaborate scheme to steal the copyrighted content for financial gain through the interception of encrypted DISH signals that were distributed to paying DISH customers and decrypted through DISH-issued hardware.

While a bomb squad is examining a mail distribution center near Miami, New York officials are still treating the packages as “live devices,” and examining tape on the pipes that could give clues to help guide investigators.

Three more devices were linked to the plot, two addressed to former vice-president Joe Biden and one to actor Robert De Niro, bringing the total to 10 in an outbreak of politically-loaded hysteria, with authorities warned there might well be more.

Law enforcement officials said the devices, containing timers and batteries, were not rigged like booby-trapped package bombs that would explode upon opening, but they were still uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never intended to cause physical harm.

Miami-Dade County Police said their bomb squad and its canine unit were on the scene in Opa-Locka, Florida, as a precautionary measure, working alongside federal authorities in an investigation into ten pipe bombs that were sent to high-profile Democrats and the New York offices of CNN.

Two Florida schoolgirls have been arrested and accused of plotting to kill classmates in a satanic rite, after the pair, 11 and 12, told officers they were Satan worshippers and planned to kill at least 15 students at Bartow Middle School.
On Tuesday they were searched by police who found weapons including a butcher’s knife, pizza cutter, scissors, and they told police they planned to drink the blood of their victims and “possibly eat their flesh.”

The search took place after a student informed a teacher about a possible attack in a school building.

At least 51 people have died and many more are missing after heavy rains caused flooding and landslides across much of western Japan, with Motoyama, near Tokyo, getting unheard of 23 inches of rainfall, with heavy rains expected to continue through Sunday and 48,000 police, firefighters and Self-Defence Force personnel mobilized to help with the rescue effort.

Hiroshima Prefecture was hit the hardest with numerous landslides that killed at least 15 people and authorities have warned that the death toll will continue to rise.

On November 9, 1938, the Nazis terrorized Jews throughout the country in the violent Kristallnacht pogroms, also known as the “Night of Broken Glass”, and according to a recent research the family of Anne Frank attempted to emigrate to the US, and later to Cuba, but their efforts were tragically thwarted by America’s restrictive immigration policy and the outbreak of World War II.

“I am forced to look out for emigration and as far as I can see the USA is the only country we could go to,” Otto Frank wrote in English to a friend in the US in 1941.

His efforts to get the family out of the Netherlands to the US likely started as early as 1938 — a turbulent year in which Nazi Germany annexed Austria and part of Czechoslovakia into the Third Reich. (DW)

England has booked their place in the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 1990 courtesy of a 2-0 win over Sweden. Harry Maguire and Dele Alli got the goals either side of half-time.

England followed up their penalty shootout win on Wednesday with a convincing 2-0 victory over Sweden in Samara Arena on Sunday.

Harry Maguire scored his first international goal to give England the early lead. Dele Alli got on the score sheet as well as England qualified for their first World Cup semifinal in 28 years.

The unintended consequences of the US/China tariff war are hitting hard, as China reduced commitments to buy 366,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans in the season that ends Aug. 31 and further cut plans to buy 66,000 tons in the following year.

Soybeans are on the hit list of American goods now being targeted by Chinese tariffs that went into effect Friday after the U.S. implemented a raft of duties earlier in the day and President Donald Trump threatened more action. The oilseed is the top agricultural commodity that the U.S. ships to China by far and is among the largest products for overall exports.
