Amazon is removing “free speech” social network Parler from its web hosting service for violating rules, and if it fails to find a new web hosting service by Sunday evening, the entire network will go offline, despite painting itself as an “unbiased” social media and has proved popular with people banned from Twitter.

Amazon alleged that it had found 98 posts on the site that encouraged violence, and Apple and Google have removed the app from their stores.

Launched in 2018, Parler has proved particularly popular among supporters of US President Donald Trump and right-wing conservatives, groups that have frequently accused Twitter and Facebook of unfairly censoring their views.

Democratic President-Elect Joe Biden promised that under his administration, not “another foot” of the wall, one of Trump’s pet projects and electoral promises, will be built, basically making sure that his intent to ditch his predecessor’s plans to build a border wall on the US southern border could cost the country’s taxpayers “billions of dollars”. 

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) chief Mark Morgan has warned that a little over half of the planned 800 miles of the wall has already been constructed, and that contracts for the construction of the remaining 350 miles have already been signed, hence not only would the government have to pay settlement fees to the contractors under the contracts’ provisions, but would also have to spend more money to stop the construction of the sections that will have already been started by 20 January:

“We’re going to walk away from areas of the wall that have already been constructed. There are going to be some areas where, let’s say we’ve already started to dig a trench and put some rebar in there, we’re actually going to have to stop and pay extra to have them remove the rebar and fill in the trench”, Morgan said.
