February 6 marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, as U.S. and foreign government partners, non-governmental organizations, and local communities call for the eradication of the practice, a decision that has deadly serious implications for the health and human rights of women and girls, as well as societies at large, creating an opportunity to reflect on victims who have suffered from female genital mutilation/cutting, and also renews a global commitment to the health and well-being of all women, girls and communities by eliminating the practice.

“Female genital mutilation is an affront to the human rights of women and girls throughout the world,” said Mark Shaffer, Chief of ICE’s Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center.

“Ending this practice will require continued cooperation and creativity of governments, partner organizations, and communities.”

Li Wenliang was one of eight whistle-blowers who tried to warn other medical workers of the outbreak, by sending a message to medical staff advising them to wear masks and protection to avoid infection after he noticed several patients presenting with a virus similar to the deadly SARS epidemic.
Health officials in the United States and China want to get a vaccine to initial human testing within months, but drug-makers have cautioned they have a long way to go.

“There are no known effective therapeutics,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said, when asked about reports of “breakthroughs” that boosted markets on Wednesday (local time).

“Nor do I like people who say, ‘I pray for you,’ when they know that that’s not so.”
These were Mr. Trump’s first public remarks since the Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday acquitted him over charges that he abused his power and obstructed Congress in a nearly party-line vote.

DHS Acting Secretary Chad Wolf declared that the New York state’s “Green Light” law prevents federal officials from being able to protect people from “menacing threats to national security and public safety,” and consequently the residents will no longer be eligible to enroll or renew their memberships in the US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) due to a new Empire State law that bars federal immigration officials from accessing motor vehicle records.

The Trusted Traveler Programs are composed of a variety of options that allow US citizens, residents and select foreign nationals to use expedited security lanes at US airports or when crossing international borders. Programs include TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, Nexus, Sentri and Fast.

​Officially known as the Driver’s License Access and Privacy Act, the legislation, which went into effect on December 14, 2019, prohibits the New York DMV from sharing records such as an individual’s photograph, social security number, vehicle identification number, address and phone number, among other details, with agencies that enforce immigration laws. It also allows undocumented persons to apply for a driver’s license through the use of foreign-issued documents that prove their identity and age.
