A former Information Technology professional identified as Joel Kurzynski, 39, of Seattle, Washington was sentenced to 30 months in prison and three years supervised release for conducting cyberstalking and threat campaigns against multiple Washington residents.

According to admissions made in connection with his plea, Kurzynski engaged in an extensive and rapidly escalating cyberstalking campaign that targeted two individuals known to him. The online campaign involved — among other things — death threats, body shaming, and hate speech. Beginning in March 2017, Kurzynski orchestrated numerous spam phone calls to Victim 1.

The conduct soon escalated to fake dating profiles wherein Kurzynski portrayed Victim 1 as seeking sadomasochistic or underage relationships. These profiles contained photographs of Victim 1 and his contact information, resulting in solicitations and harassing messages directed toward Victim 1 from multiple strangers. Kurzynski then sent several anonymous death threats to Victim 1, including the threat, “faggot. Time to die.” At one point, Kurzynski impersonated a journalist and contacted Victim 1, claiming that an upcoming article would levy sexual misconduct allegations against Victim 1 related to Victim 1’s work with a non-profit youth organization.

Police used pepper spray on a small group of men who threw street signs, bottles and other objects as they tried to break through a barricade near the European Parliament.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen warned Sunday that the illegal immigrant caravan heading toward the U.S. could be exploited by cartels that control most of the illegal flow of people through Latin America.

“While we closely monitor the caravan crisis, we must remain mindful of the transnational criminal organizations and other criminals that prey on the vulnerabilities of those undertaking the irregular migration journey,” Secretary Nielsen said in a statement.

“As the massive migrant caravan pushes toward the southern U.S. border, the second group of about 1,000 people from Honduras is rushing to join the main group — which reportedly has swelled its ranks with several people who’ve already been deported. The caravan, which has around 5,000 to 7,000 members, was on the move again Monday morning, departing the southern Mexico city of Tapachula,” according to Fox News.

A Los Angeles man, identified as the 45-year-old Paul Guadalupe Gonzales, labelled by media as the “dine-and-dash dater,” is facing ten felony counts for going on dates with numerous women across California before skipping out on the bill.

He defrauded nearly 1,000 U.S. dollars from a string of women he met mostly through dating apps and online from May 2016 through April. A dine-and-dash is regarded as a form of theft by fraud in the United States, in which a patron orders and consumes food and beverages from a restaurant or similar establishment with the intent not to pay.

 Gonzales charged with seven counts of extortion, two counts of attempted extortion and one count of grand theft, which are all felonies, as well as two misdemeanor counts each of defrauding an innkeeper and petty theft.
